ELLs can use bilingual dictionaries or glossaries with one to one translations during tests to look up unfamiliar words or phrases.

Oral Translation

ELL students may be provided with oral translations for tests that do not have a translated version in their home language. This is not allowed, however, on ELA exams.

Next Day Completion

If ELLs are scheduled to take two Regents exams on the same day, they may choose to complete their testing on the next day. This splits the hours of testing to help them to do their best.

Simultaneous Use of English and Alternative Language Editions

If a translated version is available in the student's home language, they can use both that version and the English version at the same time. However, this is not allowed on ELA exams.

Third Reading of Listening Selection (ELA exams only)

Writing Responses in Home Language
