I think that students shouldn’t have to because since other people from different nations are learning english there is no reason to learn a second language. The text states “because much of the world is striving to learn english, Americans wonder why they should bother to learn a second language”. Bothering to learn a second language is pointless since the rest of the world is learning a language everyone can speak, it would be pointless for another language.The article also says that “What I can see, based on what actually happens  in high school, learning a foreign language is often a waste of time” This explains that when learning a new language, you can forget the second you graduate.

Also it is so easy now there are many websites on the internet that you can learn another language. Another thing is that if we teach littles younger kids another language with english then it would be just as easier to mandate. Clearly, the U.S. should mandate learning another language.
