 Logan is expanding rapidly and the need for new construction is imminent. The Logan City Council plans to construct an ‘urban village’ including industrial, commercial and housing areas. Their current proposal involves the removal of more than ½ of Karawatha forest, in Berrinba East, in order to complete the construction. 

 Focus Question: Is human progress justified at the cost of environmental, social and/or economic destruction?

 Process/Scaffolding:

  1. Create an argument for and an argument against the focus question.
  2. Note-take key information about issues such as deforestation and find evidence in focus texts (Lorax, Worldshaker, BP).
  3. Use the R2L structure to write your discussion.
  4. Use high modality throughout.
  5. Create a PowerPoint or multimodal component to accompany your discussion.
