<title>Chomsky believes that everyone is born with a common set of rules that are followed to learn language - called &#39;Universal Grammar&#39;. Chomsky suggests infants can pick up on grammatical language rules as communication occurs around them. Children test this as they get older and start to refine the language - at this point parents will correct. An example of this would be when children are referring to something in the past tense. (Children may say &#39;eated&#39; instead of &#39;ate.&#39; ) As the child continues to learn grammar at school - they are not necessarily being taught a &#39;language&#39; - the instruction becomes about teaching the child to translate grammar to writing based communication.</title>

<title>Interactionists argue that language development is both biological and social. Interactionists argue that language learning is influenced by the desire of children to communicate with others. The Interactionists argue that children are born with a powerful brain that matures slowly and predisposes them to acquire new understandings that they are motivated to share with others. The main theorist associated with interactionist theory is Lev Vygotsky. Interactionists focus on Vygotsky&#39;s model of collaborative learning. Collaborative learning is the idea that conversations with older people can help children both cognitively and linguistically.</title>
