Principals get to decide how funds are spent, but 80% has to be spent on Personnel. We want to organize around hiring a Certificated Teacher that we will form a relationship with rather than an "arts program" where some group will come in and run their own art program which we have no control over.

Also, another idea is to partner with another site, perhaps Mountain View for example, who will receive $36,237 to see about hiring a full time art teacher for both schools. AND, we would all get an additional prep per week!

Please let me know if there is something going on in your classroom or on our site that is making an adverse working condition for you everyday. We need to put a work order in first, but then we have the right to submit a "Request for Respone, Adverse Conditions in Working Environment" form to speed up the process.

Next time our restrooms are out of service in the Office bathroom, I will not let it go on for 3 days. We are going to speak up sooner.

We as a union have decided not to take our issues before the PERB Board, but rather to go through arbitration. We think we will have better success. An arbitrator's job is to look at the contract and make sure the district is following it.

It could be later winter, or early Spring before we get to the Arbitrator. Witnesses will still be needed, but not until then. The next step is to select an Arbitrator.

Here are the 4 items going to Arbitration.
1) Class Size Overages (11 grievances)
2) Yard Duty (1-Those under 50% being asked to do yard duty and 2-Holbrook teachers not getting both of their 30 minute preps)
3) College unit earned not being accepted from certain schools without preapproval
4) Bell Schedule at Pleasant Hill Middle

This is still a big topic we are working on negotiating around. One of the big challenges is that the SEA 4's that are supposed to assist students by sitting next to students to give them support are not taking the jobs. We barely pay minimum wage, no one wants to take the jobs. Only 25% of SEA jobs in the district are filled right now.

Terri Huston knows a lot about this and is working on as well.

Nothing should be cut right now. We should be receiving the extra support we need. But are we? Or do we have a Superintendent continuing to cut everywhere possible, making our classrooms full to the brim.

This is absolutely unacceptable. We as a union need to stand together, be strong, and fight for our rights per our contract!
