"He (Sonny Rollins) said that if a musician can make one note, one sound, that he feels happy with, it's a good practice session" (Ratliff, Page 72)

This quote from Ratliff's book, "Every Song Ever" kind of sums up what this chapter is about. Ratliff talks about the phenomenon of music artists repeating a single not or beat repeatedly, emphasizing on a certain beat. Ratliff quotes examples of musicians employing this tool throughout history, however he believes that it has a negative affect of music. One of the songs cited as an example of the use of the "one note technique" in the textbook was "Cinnamon Girl" (1969) by Neil Young. According to the author, the use of one note is unfair on the listener as it is repetitive and uninspiring. I personally disagree with Ratcliff's assertion as I believe some great songs have been made with the one note method and it is a unique and interesting concept within the musical world.

One such example is the French classic, "Ca Plane Pour Moi" by Plastic Bertrand, it makes use of the one note method and has become a classic musical hit in the French language.
