SimpleK12 is a resource that I will continue to use. This resource was one I had never used prior to this class. I had a great experience when participating in the webinars. Since completing the required webinar I have participated in two others and implemented what I have learned into my summer school classroom. I have shared this resource with my other colleagues and will be looking frequently to see what other webinars are available. One way I can help share this is by letting other colleagues know when a webinar that might interested them is coming up and encourage them to attend it.

Prior to this class I had heard of TED Talks and how great of a resource they were however, I had only watched one. It was an assignment for another course and I did enjoy it however, when I went to find one to watch for this class I realized their potential. I choose to watch Kayla Delzer's talk and I have shared what I have learned with other and encouraged them to go watch it. It is the perfect motivation a teacher needs as the fall nears. I hope to find time to watch more motivational, engaging, and inspiring TED talks and share what I learn with other teachers and my students.

Digital Toolbox

The digital toolbox that we created will be a resource that is used continually. I loved getting to learn about new tools that can be used personally and in my classroom. As summer classes wind down and the school year approaches, I am looking forward to using the tools to create new and engaging activities and assignments for my students. I have shared many of the new tools I used with our instructional coach and she has asked me to present a number of them as part of a small group professional development in the fall. I am looking forward to sharing what I have learned with teachers in my school district. The website will be a nice place to start for this presentation.

Facilitating a Discussion Module

The opportunity to facilitate a discussion module in the classroom made me feel more comfortable about sharing my knowledge with others. It made me confident in my opinions and gave me practice on how to share those opinions in a constructive way. I hope to continue to be able to be comfortable speaking up and sharing my knowledge and opinions with others in a way that helps teach them what I am learning in graduate school.

The module on the flipped classroom was beneficial for me because I can not wait to share what I have learned with a teacher who flips her 5th grade classroom. The flipped classroom is so much more than making videos and doing the homework in school. I am looking forward to sharing the resources I found with this particular teacher in hopes of making her flipped classroom even more successful.

In Module 1, we learned about technology standards. My instructional coach often talks about the ISTE standards and prior to this course I was unsure of what they all entailed. When she would talk about these standards I often felt lost or felt like I did not know enough about them. Upon completing module 1, I know that I will feel more comfortable talking to her about these and sharing what I learned with the other teachers in our school system with her. I look forward to creating more opportunities for my students to meet these standards.

During Module 3, I created a Hotlist using Symbaloo. Next up for this resource for me is to create a new Hotlist for my students to use during their Genius Hour time. Having a resource like Symbaloo will make my students' research much easier and I will appreciate that because it will free up my time to help with other things.

Module 2 discussed copyright. I learned an incredible amount about how to avoid breaking copyright. The next step is to take what I learned and make sure I am following copyright rules. I hate the idea of stealing others work and will be much more cautious of this in the future. I also feel responsible to teach my students and other teachers of the importance of following copyright and how to use others work legally.

The research project that we completed throughout the course was at times overwhelming but also beneficial. I know that when I go to do my next action research project whether it is in another class or my final one, I will feel more confident. I learned from my classmates and feel like I am more prepared then I was prior to this class. Action research gets easier the more times it is done and I am glad that I will have done a collaborative research project prior to doing my own.

Horizon Report Learnings

The Horizon Report shared many trends that are going to continue into the next five years. The short-term impact trends are the solvable trends these include the increase of the use of blended learning and the rise of STEAM learning. The mid-term impact trends are the difficult ones. They include increasing use of collaborative learning approaches and shift from students as consumers to becoming creators. Finally, the long-term impact trends which are the wicked ones include rethinking how schools work and the shift to deeper learning approaches.

The report also discussed some developments that will happen over the next 5 years. The developments are broken into three terms. The near-term which discusses the next year or less. These developments include the bring your own device (BYOD) and implementation of makerspaces. The mid-term developments talk about the developments in the next 2-3 years. The developments that they discussed during this term include 3D printing and introducing adaptive learning technologies. Finally, the far-term developments, developments in the next 4-5 years, include the digital badges and introducing wearable technology. It is interesting to read about where we are with technology but more importantly where we are going! It is exciting stuff!
