For a change of pace, I will break students into groups or have them work individually to learn about a topic (for example, each group will get a different bible passage that relates to the lesson). It is then the students' job to teach their classmates about what they learned. This helps students take ownership over what they are learning because they have to teach others. It is also a nice change of pace to "regular" class time.

For my elementary students, we have been working on keeping a steady beat. We will sit in a circle and pass around Jack the Pumpkin while singing this tune. Students must pass on the beat or they are "out". If we get through an entire round, whoever Jack lands on when we say "Boo!" is "out". Students who are "out" stand outside of the circle, still sing, and have to help me make sure everyone is passing on the beat. This is one of their absolute favorite "games" to play, but it also helps them learn to sing and keep a beat at the same time and develop their motor skills to match the beat.
