Charcoal on Gray Paper Drawing

What success did you accomplish?
I feel like I accomplished drawing the S and the leaves going around the S very well because it looks like it’s coming off the bottle like it does in real life and I also feel like I drew the softball very well with the seams because it’s looks like the seams are actually going down it to the ball to hold the leather down.
Did you run into any difficulties along the way?
I think what was difficult for me was making sure everything was nicely blended all together on the objects so that they didn’t look 2D and so that they looked 3D.
Were you able to effectively use a variety of values to create form(3D)?
I believe that I was able to use many values to make it so that it looked 3D by drawing the highlights on the objects where they needed to be to make it look real.
Did your gesture drawing effectively work to fill the space on the paper size that was provided to you?
I should have put the gesture drawing farther down on the paper because the bottle only has a small space above it and there is space below the shadows so I could have put them down farther.
What would you do differently if you did this project again?
I would put the objects down farther on the paper so that everything is centered and do the shadows better.
Did you enjoy this project? And why?
I liked doing this project because it put me over my comfort level in drawing because I am not used to using charcoal for drawing and also I liked drawing objects that had something to do with my personality.

How was your experience working with a vanishing point and making sure objects and walls went to that point?
I have worked with vanishing points in the past and I like to use them because it looks like u are looking into something and I like how most of the lines go the same direction and how it makes the drawing look more realistic.
Was it difficult to understand shading and make sure some objects are darker than others that also included highlights and shadows?
I think it was difficult with some of the objects cause some of them were shiny like the tv so I had to make it look like a tv but also dark bc it is black and it is on the wall where the light is coming in from
Does your room look realistic(3D)?How? Why?
I think my room does look realistic because I made sure to make everything some sort or 3D by making everything go to the vanishing point.
What would you do differently if you were to do this project again?
I would probably put more windows in to have more light sources and I would want to shade the walls better to make them more 3D like so they actually look like walls

How did you effectively achieve the idea of impression?
I tried to create my impression of my picture by asking sure u could see the stokes of the pastel and you can see the dark marks and the lighter marks. Also I tried to make lighter and darker shades of each color with the colors I was given.
What were some struggles/successes?
I struggled with the land part of the picture because I had to get the color what I thought the color looked like and also I had to make sure that it had dark sources for the rocks. I feel like the clouds, the sky, and the sea were the best parts of my project because I feel like I really made it look that they were supposed to be.
Were you able to recreate the image with a variety of colors not see by the eye to enhance color and the idea of putting in your own “impression” of the image?
I was able to put my own impression of colors into this image but I had trouble with that with putting that into the land. Although with the clouds, I tried to do that with the clouds to make them look like they were 3D and in my opinion I was successful with that because they actually look like clouds.
Did u enjoy this process?
I did like doing this project but I got frustrated at some points during this because I couldn’t get the land to look the way I wanted it to.
What would you do differently if u were to do this again?
I probably would do the land a lot differently so that it would look like the water was splashing up onto the land where it is supposed to do that.

Pen and ink drawing

Did you enjoy using pen and ink as a drawing medium?
Personally I did not like drawing pen because I am the person who is always making mistakes and wanting to erase and try again until I get it to where I like it but with using ink I was not able to do that.
Was it difficult to develop a range of values?
I think it was kind of hard but then again drawing can be hard bc we are learning how to do different things with different drawing tools
Did you take into consideration the value scales we created with hatching, cross hatching, and stippiling to make darks and lights?
I did do use hatching and cross-hatching but I wasn’t very confident with stippling so I did not choose to use that meathod but with the cross hatching and hatching i was able to try and make the darks and lights in the picture
If you could do this project again, what would you change or do the same?
The only thing I would do the same with this project if I did it again is still just use cross hatching and hatching because nothing else was successful in my mind with this project.
Do you think you selected and appropriate image for the mark making techniques with pen and ink or doing doing this again, would you select a new image?
If I did this again I would not do this image again I would want to probably want to select a picture that was a little easier because since this was my first experience using pen and ink to draw I should have used a image that has less texture and then I could work up to this

Why did you chose this piece of artwork?
I chose this piece of artwork because the way she was standing and how she was looking at us made it seem she had a huge purpose.
How does this pose represent who you are?
I think it represents me as a person because I won't let anyone minipulate me just to get what they want so I think she looking like she has a big purpose says that to me too.
Did you alter the clothing or the background?
I actually changed both because I wanted those parts to be mostly my personality bc the flowers in the background really make me feel like I am at home in California and I changed the clothes because I don't wear dresses a lot I usually wear hoodies and jean shorts exactly what I put on me in the picture.
How does the background represent you?
The background represents me because all the flowers really make me feel like I am back home in California and it just makes me a better person when I am out there and it is less stressfull.
What would you do differently if you were to do this project again?
I would probably do the flowers a different color and work a little harder on my face.
