A really a good question - we would be happy to look at drafts of your work, something we encourage. You may want to email it in advance to one of the tutors and then meet with them to discuss. NB: we can only look at 10% of a final draft. Jo Augustus

With regards to race, I do not believe that anyone is inherently racist. No one is born with an idea or an opinion ( prejudice, bias or preconceived stigma.). The notion of racism is not a black or white topic and many factors have to be taken into consideration like group identity for example or the differences between culture and race. Racism stems from a viewpoint which can be formed by various factors. When I was younger, I lived in quite a racist place and it was quite clear that the beliefs of the people there were influenced by both the hardships in life and the influence of the local political groups ukip. The environment and the beliefs of the older generation helped form the opinions of the younger generation and the racist ball kept on spinning. Although an awful lot has changed from the days of slavery and skin heads, It's important to recognise that within some communities, ideas still exist. It's also important to consider that racism works both ways and that it's not just white people who are guilty of this. The statement "White people aren't allowed to have dreadlocks" Said by friends of mine being a perfect example. I personally find it near impossible to fully grasp and understand the entirety of this topic however from experience I chose not to identify anyone as a specific group, treat people on an individual basis and try my best to not let anything influence my opinion if i can see that it's untrue or from a bad place. If you can do it properly, usually you don't end up having silly views.

In my experience, I have rarely come into contact with people experiencing problems with how to define their gender. I had a friend in school who changed from a he to a she but other then that, I've rarely come into contact with this situation personally. I know that in this persons experience, it helped them a lot and once they were open about it and that a lot of their internal struggle dissipated as they were externally able to express themselves. I find it difficult myself to understand that sort of problem as I've never been in that situation but I recognise that it can be hard for some people. Although I can sympathise, I personally find it difficult to accept the idea that there is over fifty genders. I find myself siding more with the biological elements to gender as appose to things like Agender (genderless), Androgyne, Bigender, Genderqueer / non-binary, Gender bender and Pangender. I don't even know what those words mean so I choose to stick to the basics. That does not mean that I don't think people should call themselves things. You do you and I'll do me as far as I'm concerned. I'd be respectful of a persons choice but I do personally find it difficult to understand. Is it real? Are none of us girls or boys? is gender biological or just a concept we use to define ourselves and can it be what we want it to be? I personally find it too confusing to understand.
