Walter is a loving old fashioned person who believes the world owes him a debt. The trait I would use for him is nurturing. When Walter says Walter to Travis: “Just tell me where you want to go to school and you’ll go. Just tell me, what it is you want to be—and you’ll be it…Whatever you want to be—Yessir! You just name it, son… and I hand you the world!” p. 108 it shows how he feels that he can and will be able to send Travis where he wants. Walter doesn't seem to care about the situation he is in because he knows he will be out soon enough to send Travis to college. Walter also seems to think he has the world to give, he is barely able to get his own world together and is already offering the rest to his son.

Walter is a old fashioned man who is only out in the world to provide a better life for his family, he sees opportunities to make a better living and tries to seize them, i would use, opportunistic. When Walter states “You all always telling me to see life like it is. Well… I figured it out. Life just like it is. Who gets and who don’t get. Mama, you know it’s all divided up. Life is. Between the takers and the “tooken.” Yeah. Some of us always getting “tooken.” People like Willy Harris, they don’t never get “tooken.” And you know why the rest of us do? ‘Cause we all mixed up. Mixed up bad. We get to looking ‘round for the right and the wrong; and we worry about it and cry about it and stay up nights trying to figure out ‘bout the wrong and the right of things all the time…And all the time, man, them takers is out there operating, just taking and taking.” P. 141, 142 it shows how he sees whats out beyond the reach of himself and is trying to obtain it. Walter can see what the problem is and how to fix it, he just needs the means to do it. In Walters life he really has never had money, he just goes with the flow until an opportunity shows itself, he seizes it and takes advantage of that opportunity to the betterment of himself and his family.

I used this painting because Walter is a very dull person, like the colors in this painting, but their is always something hidden underneath. for Walter its his personality that you need to look for. In the painting, its the way the trappers are paddling, not with the current but against into more hardships to gain more for their trouble. When I saw this painting I asked myself "why are they moving against the waves, it must be easier to follow with them". I realized their destination must be to society to sell their hides the stormy waters must have set in since they left to get their hides. The canoe on stormy water represents Walter in the struggles in life. He continuously pushes through to the better side of his objective. The mood of being dark and dreary relates to Walter because up until he was hammered in the scene with Beneatha he had been extremely serious and almost dark.
Basically its a symbol for going through a rough time for Walter and the Youngers

I feel water should be seen as a role mode by his son and rest of his family. hes trying to make himself a place in the world and is better off for it. I feel like if I was in Walters shoes I would do the same thing. I believe Walter is a good person because all of his interests were for the betterment of his family and his family alone.

How I hate those who think I am not all about the world. Making others not to value me" it hit me that it related to when Mama told Walter that money isn't what rules our lives. Of course he didn't listen and told her she was wrong but she still tried. Walter sees only money as his objective for himself and family.

In the song" If I Had A Million Dollars" some of the lines from the song are, " if i had a million dollars Well I'd buy you a house (And if I had a million dollars (if I had a million dollars)I'd buy you furniture for your house (maybe a nice chesterfield or an ottoman) this relates to Walter because he is trying to help the Younger family to buy their next house by making more money. He wanted to buy a liquor store to be able to have a reliable source of income to provide for the house and the family. ultimately his goal was to be able to get his family the house they needed to be able to live happy lives.

In "A Raisin In The Sun" a good theme would be that family means everything, because as Mama states to Walter: “Something eating you up like a crazy man. Something more than me not giving you this money. The past few years I been watching it happen to you. You get all nervous acting and kind of wild in the eyes—“ p. 72 Walter basically blows her off. Mama tries to get to Walter by seeing what's going on inside his skull, he doesn't let her in. I feel like Mama would have said something along the lines of "money ain't everything their son" or " why you always talking about this money, it ain't ever done anything for us". And as Mama stated “Son, how come you talk so much ‘bout money?” Walter: “Because it is life, Mama!” Mama: “Oh—so now its life. Money is life. Once upon a time freedom used to be life—now its money. I guess the world really do change…” Walter: “No—it was always money, Mama. We just didn’t know about it.” p. 74 shes gotten into walters head and is finally able to see what he's thinking about their financial situation. Walter basically says money is now more important to life than freedom, Mama says that money inst everything there is to life, but Walter says she is wrong.
