The picture has been arranged to show the side of the horse, specifically the Maine of this horse as well as its head. Some of the leading lines lead to underneath the cheeks and since this is a line drawing only lines have been used to draw the head and neck of the horse , creating a contrast between different shades of dark and light blue. In terms of sense of space ,the background is blank while the mid-ground has the horse drawn in. However there is no specific pattern. However another thing you see about the picture is that it is just a plain horse and has some eye catching areas of it but after being carefully looked at closer, the Maine of the horse consists of a chunks of hair and the horse is in good proportion. This relationship created  by the artist at first showed a simple horse with no special features however later on after looking at it again the horse is actually well proportioned and showing that it has more details.
The story the artist is that despite the horse having a stern face, the color blue usually associates with sadness and from the picture the different shades of blue represent this. Thus when i look at this picture i feel a sense of sadness.
