A bar line is the line they use on the staff to separate your notes into organized groups. The space between your bar lines are called measures. It is very important that you know what a bar line is so you can count and label your measure numbers.

A system groups two or more of your staves together with the piano and vocal parts. Any parts you see in one system will all happen at the same time. Below you see two systems each having two staves in them. Notice how the staves and two different brackets are connected with one long line! That means that the piano and vocal parts in that system all happen at the same time.
