Behavioral Theory was influenced by Burrhus Frederic (B.F.) Skinner. Skinner believed that motivation was driven by negative and positive reinforcement. Rewards were used to emphasize this fact because they assign a positive emotion with the desired behavior and also reinforces the behavior.

Cognitive Theory was developed by Jean Piaget. Piaget believed that our interpretations of events are what determines our behavior and motivations. This is done through the creation of schemas, frameworks used to interpret the world and our experiences.

Social Theory was developed by Albert Bandura. Bandura thought that we learn through observing the people around us and their behaviors. He established that are four stages to social learning: attention, retention, reproduction, and motivation.

Humanistic Theory was developed by Abraham Maslow. Maslow believed the humans made decisions based off of a hierarchy of needs. The needs are split into two groups: deficiency needs, which are the physiological needs (i.e. food, housing, clothing), and growth needs, which are the psychological needs (i.e. self esteem, respect, self actualization).

I believe cognitive theory would be most helpful to me. I tend to get in my head a lot about most of my decisions, causing me to either experience decision paralysis or to completely give up entirely. I think if I start using the motivation techniques for cognitive theory, I'd really start being more decisive in my everyday life.

Having a positive attitude about my tasks would greatly improve my motivation to do them. For example, I know that learning 3D animation is going to be a challenge, but if I go into with the mindset of "I'll have a new media format to work with and give me a new way to view my characters", then I'll be more excited about it.

Creating interest in the task would be very similar to having a positive attitude. Using the 3D animation example, a lot of my favorite franchises use 3D animation, so researching the animation process for them would motivate me to learn and improve my skill.
