Intentional "Micro-Moments" of Connection: This is something I'm actively trying to be more consistent with. Instead of just rushing through transitions or administrative tasks, I aim to have brief, positive interactions with individual students. This could be a quick check-in about their day, a genuine compliment on their work or effort, or a brief shared laugh about something. These small moments, even just 15-30 seconds, can accumulate and make students feel seen and valued. The key is to be present and authentic in these interactions.

Active Listening and Showing Genuine Interest: This is a practice I strive for but can always improve upon. When a student speaks, I try to truly listen – not just waiting for my turn to talk. This involves making eye contact, nodding, and occasionally summarizing what they've said to ensure I understand. Asking follow-up questions shows genuine interest in their thoughts, feelings, and experiences, both inside and outside the classroom. This builds trust and makes students feel heard and respected.

Personalized Positive Communication: Beyond just grades, I'm focusing on more personalized positive communication. This could be a brief handwritten note on a good piece of work highlighting a specific strength, a quick email to parents praising a student's positive contribution in class, or a verbal acknowledgment of their progress or effort in a particular area. These personalized touches show students (and their families) that I see them as individuals and appreciate their unique contributions.
