         <description><![CDATA[<div>Supports students by promoting self-advocacy through activity, nutrition and making healthy choices. The focus is not just on academic skills, but considers the whole child: mental, physical, social, emotional: "Healthy kids score better" and "Wellness lasts a lifetime." This program looks at what will affect a child's health during their entire lifetime. Providing healthy food options in the cafeteria that are based off of MyPlate guidelines. Students should have at least 60 min of exercise every day. When students sit still for too long, they are not engaged and processing information well. Brain breaks gets kids moving and helps them refocus. Students are given hands-on experiences in learning. They also learn about handling their emotions, their relationships and friendships, their self-identity. Students are supported with counseling and and also health services, such as wellness checks and medical testing. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Observations:<br>-Students were relating concepts to real-life impacts: weight loss, nutrition, energy, exercise.<br>-Students were able to see how their physical activity and health effected their ability to learn.&nbsp;<br>-Activities were real-life relatable.<br>-General focus of grades and assessment has been too narrow, only reading and math.<br>- Children come to school with their whole life/being, not just their academics. It all effects them as a student.<br>- Basic needs and health need to be supported and assessed first before true learning can happen.<br>-A child's social, physical, and emotional well-being should not take back-seat to academics.&nbsp;<br>-a well-rounded child whose needs are met are more ready to learn, and score better/more effective in the classroom.<br>-Health is part of a flourishing academic environment.<br>-recently, health ed., recess, and counselling services have been reduced.&nbsp;<br>-Higher poverty reduces availability of mental health services, nutrition, physical ed., absenteeism<br>-CDC saw that obesity is a issue for children, health issues are rising, so it has brought the importance of health ed for kids.&nbsp;<br>-the habits carry into adulthood.&nbsp;<br>-Coordinated School Health<br>includes: staff health for modelling, encouraging healthy choices<br>-IDEA: snack shack. math and commerce learning. Healthy nutrition choices.&nbsp;<br>-Physical education is a content area where we teach the knowledge, skills, behavior, and attitudes to keep them healthy for a lifetime.&nbsp;<br>-Daily activity of 60+minutes<br>-fewer than 10% of schools have daily PE<br>-Sedentary settings are not ideal for learning.&nbsp;<br>-Intermittent or continuous movement keeps students engaged and learning.&nbsp;<br>-Brain breaks, especially for younger grades, every 20 minutes or so. Can be seasonal or themed.<br>-Brain breaks can lower discipline issues.<br>- Try to keep content and information hands-on. Those issues needs to be comforted and fixed before they can successfully learn in the class. Basic needs come first.&nbsp;<br>-If children feel loved at home, and promote healthy choices at home, they will succeed in school, scores are higher<br>-Important to teach kids life long skills they can apply at home and in the community.&nbsp;<br>-More health issues are rising and are missing school. Habits learned at a young age, move with them as they grow up.&nbsp;<br>-My plate is visually available in the cafeteria which is a positive influence for students to be more aware of what they are putting on their plate.&nbsp;<br>-Fun school programs that include healthy options. (snack shack)<br>-Let students decide and get involved into making the changes in the school&nbsp;<br>(changing out soda machines). They get excited about it and more willing to be engaged.&nbsp;<br>-Physical activity is being cut in order to meet teacher standards and curriculum<br>-Physical education improves many parts of the child that improves their attention and cognitive thinking. Brain breaks are essential to transition and refocus for next activity.&nbsp;<br>-Teachers can easily integrate physical education in every subject.&nbsp;<br>-Some children do not know how to identify their feelings. Adults in the school can play many roles to help children feel safe and work through home life issues so they can focus in class. Children bring many home issues to school without knowing it.&nbsp;<br>-Some schools have free healthcare to help kids stay healthy so they don't miss school.&nbsp;<br>-Getting staff involved and share healthy recipes and workout together.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Morgan was part of a health class, which helped him make better life choices, like food and activity choices.&nbsp;<br>A child who is socially and physically healthy are more successful academically.<br>Students come to school with more than their backpack, they come with home/family issues; therefore, schools must address this to help students achieve academically.<br>We need to view health within the academic teaching.<br>Wellness lasts a lifetime.<br>What does health look like.<br>More children are obese, asthmatics, and sleep issues.<br>School lunch programs are serving healthier choices, which appeal to children; therefore, more students are taking advantage of lunch from school.<br>Allowing students to have a say, as to the food choices available at the school, gives them power in making those better food choices.&nbsp;<br>PE each day makes for more active students.<br>Student who move often through out the day are less likely to display behavior problems.<br>Health education can be integrated into all aspects of learning.&nbsp;<br>Social and emotional health needs to be addressed within the classroom.&nbsp;<br>Kids are like adults, if I didn't know where I was going to sleep that night, I too, would not be able to function and learn.<br>Students need to feel safe and secure at school, which then will raise academic scores.<br>When teachers are not feeling their best, then the student see's and feels this.<br>Advocate for school-wide health and fitness. <br><br></div>]]></description>
