As a class, we discuss the new vocabulary in the text and share the word meanings. As a class, we work together to find the answers to questions linked to the text and then record these answers. The children also have opportunities to work in pairs as well as independently.

Children to use different folding techniques to create their own paper mouse.

• Copy and repeat actions.  
• Put a sequence of actions together to create a motif.  
• Vary the speed of their actions. 
• Begin to improvise independently to create a simple dance. 

During these sessions, we work on fluency, comprehension and inference.

You can do this by;

1. Reinforcing the sounds already introduced. We will post these regularly on Seesaw. Your child will also bring the phonics worksheets they complete at school home for further reinforcement.

2. Logging into Oxford Owls (see attached instructions) and reading the Floppy's Phonics books at home with your child to reinforce both new sounds introduced and previous ones they may still find tricky.

Before the summer term, we will introduce leading lines to some children. This prepares the children ready for joining as they move into Year 2.

The children will follow a design process to design and make their own smoothie. They will also learn about where fruits and vegetables grow and the difference between fruits and vegetables.

Can I describe and classify fruit and vegetables by taste and texture?

Can I suggest information that should be on packaging?

They will learn about physical and human features and identify these features within their local area of Upton.

The children will draw a simple map of Upton and will go on a local walk around Upton where we will look for different features.

We will look at simple compass direction to describe location and routes.

Welcome back to a brand new term in Sparrows! We have lots of exciting learning planned as well as fabulous trips out and wonderful workshops.

Please read through our class curriculum newsletter which outlines all the different areas of learning we will be working on. There is also information about how you can support your child's learning at home.

Tuesday- On Tuesday afternoons, Sparrows will take part in Forest School, Kitchen Garden or Art. This will alternate every two weeks. Please ensure your child is dressed in their forest school uniform with appropriate waterproofs.

Wednesday- PE- your child will leave their PE kit in school ready for PE days.

Friday- Celebration Award Assembly via Zoom. We will send you a message on Seesaw if your child has been selected for a work award. Children who have been working hard on Spelling Shed and Mathletics and have won awards will also have a special mention in assembly! We will also change reading books and library books on a Friday.

Homework will also be set on a Friday to be completed by the following Friday. Spelling and phonics practise will be set on Spelling Shed each week as well as Maths activities on Matheletics linked to the maths work we have completed in class.
