We have indicated five person's of interest in the mysterious death of Marcel Newgard. The five person's of interest are Jenn Newgard, Cam Banks, Kay Litrell, Aiden Santori and Naomi Lee. All these five individuals have had interactions with Marcel. We have concluded to conduct interviews and polygraph test with all five person of interest.

Jenn Newgard- 20 years old female. Marcel Newgard’s younger sister. Jenn says she last talked to Marcel on Friday night at 10:15 PM. Marcel called her on his way home from work. Jenn says the call lasted about 20 minutes and they argued about Jenn recently borrowing Marcel’s car.

Cam Banks- 23 years old male. Marcel Newgard’s roommate. Cam says he last saw Marcel on Friday afternoon at 3:30, just before Marcel left for work and Cam left town for the weekend to visit family. He and Marcel recently had an argument over Aiden.

Kay Litrell- 22 years old female. Marcel Newgard’s coworker at the Biotic Bistro restaurant. Kay says she last saw Marcel at their Friday shift at the restaurant; they both clocked out at 10:00 p.m. Kay recently accused Marcel of stealing her tips and threatened to go to their manager.

Aiden Santori- 25 years old male. A new friend of Marcel Newgard. Aiden says he last saw Marcel on Friday afternoon at 3:50 p.m. in the parking lot of the Biotic Bistro restaurant, just before Marcel started his shift. Aiden and Marcel recently met and started hanging out a couple of weeks ago. Not much is known about Aiden; he doesn’t say much around others and tends to come and go frequently. Cam recently caught Aiden going through one of the cabinets in the apartment he shares.

Naomi Lee- 32 years old female. Marcel Newgard’s supervisor at the Biotic Bistro restaurant. Naomi last saw Marcel when he clocked out of his shift at 10:00 p.m. on Friday night. She contacted police when Marcel was a no-show for work two shifts in a row (Saturday night, Sunday morning). Naomi says she was aware Kay and Marcel didn’t get along but she didn’t know a reason for it. She says Marcel was a good employee and customers seemed to like

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dIkxUhbTVR6Vi-fHiy5ydAK5l9XVM3hV/view

Whose hair was found at the scene? I have observed every hair sample of the five people of interest including the decedent Marcel Newgard. As I have observed this hair samples, I have noticed the unknown hair from the scene has appearance to Marcel’s Newgard hair ad it also has the same appearance to his sister Jenn Newgard. As I look closer at the unknown hair sample, I notice the cuticle is a noticeably light brown color and it has green involve in the inside which is called the medulla. The cuticle in our hair is the outermost layer and it protects the inside of the hair shaft from damage. The medulla is the innermost layer of the hair shaft it’s a soft and fragile layer. In conclusion the unknown hair sample belongs to the decedent Marcel Newgard. If we look at the five people of interest for example at Naomi Lee hair sample, we see her hair is a dark brown and it is thicker which has absolutely no appearance to be the one found in the scene. If we look at another person of interest such as Cam Banks her hair sample is also a dark brown and it is thicker than the one found in the scene. The last two persons of interest which are Cam Banks and Aiden Santori have a light brown hair a little appearance occurs there for the one found on the scene but it has no green in the inside of it and it also appears to be thinner so it cannot be the one found in the scene.

https://jsmorton-my.sharepoint.com/personal/pulidjam000_jsmorton_org/_layouts/15/Doc.aspx?sourcedoc=%7BC7BD9D59-4162-4B66-9585-7234C960276B%7D&file=HairEvidence%20crack%20the%20case-%20Jamilet%20pulido.docx&wdOrigin=OFFICECOM%2dWEB%2eSTART%2eSEARCH&ct=1607538015209&action=default&mobileredirect=true

The blood found at the scene belonged to Marcel Newgard according to the blood typing analysis because as we can notice the decedent Marcel Newgard is Type A blood and the spatter blood found at the scene is also Type A blood. Agguliation was present in the blood agglutination test referring to it clumping . The red blood cells indicate a positive reaction. Red Blood cells are known to agglutinate so coating the cells with antigens will yield results as clumping occurs if antibody is present against antigen. Forensic scientists use blood types, also called the ABO System, to help narrow down who the blood belongs to and better understand who may have been at the scene. Many people have the same blood type, the blood type alone cannot be used as a definitive identification test. To definitively determine identity, further testing must be completed, such as a DNA test.

https://jsmorton-my.sharepoint.com/:w:/r/personal/pulidjam000_jsmorton_org/_layouts/15/Doc.aspx?sourcedoc=%7B71D00366-27BA-4944-B85B-2E15284FED1A%7D&file=BloodTyping(Crack%20the%20Case)-Jamilet%20Pulido.docx&wdOrigin=OFFICECOM-WEB.MAIN.MRU&ct=1607531254496&action=default&mobileredirect=true

Who's DNA was found at the Scene? The DNA found at the scene according to the analysis done by the Gel Electrophoresis belongs to Marcel Newgard. The DNA and the DNA gum found at the scene belongs to Marcel Newgard because every lane matches correctly to the DNA spatter found at the scene and the DNA Gum that was also part of the Gel electrophoresis analysis.

DNA pieces can be separated and compared using a process called gel electrophoresis. Agarose gels are used in this process and they are a mixture of agar referring to a substance extracted from seaweed and a chemical solution called a buffer. The agar, when prepped, forms a porous gelatin-like material that acts to filter DNA by the size of the DNA molecules. As the digested DNA fragments move through an electrically charged agarose gel, their varying lengths propel them at different speeds. The gel is then stained with a dye that binds to DNA and the fragments of DNA can be visualized. The banding pattern of DNA pieces, unique to the individual, is the DNA profile. The DNA is loaded into the wells of a gel and an electric current is applied to the gel box. DNA is negatively charged and migrates toward the positive end of the gel. The DNA fragments separate by size with the smallest fragments moving more quickly to the positive end of the gel. To see the bands of DNA on the gel, the gel needs to be stained. The stain will bind to the DNA, making it visible to the naked eye. The stain used in this video can only be visualized under UV light.

https://jsmorton-my.sharepoint.com/:w:/r/personal/pulidjam000_jsmorton_org/_layouts/15/Doc.aspx?sourcedoc=%7B02E60E98-427F-4853-94AA-456C0E1B89FE%7D&file=DNA%20Evidence-%20Marcel%20Newgrad.docx&action=default&mobileredirect=true

What were the results of the heart Autopsy? The results of the heart autopsy is Marcel Newgard didn't have a healthy heart due to the amount of caffeine and the amount of acetaminophen. The active ingredients in the painkiller excedrin in each tablet contains Acetaminophen 250 mg, Aspirin 250 mg, and Caffeine 65 mg. As we know Marcel Newgard was already consuming caffeine with a amount of 85mg/L which is associated with caffeine related fatalities.

The stimulatory effects of high caffeine intake may cause your heart to beat faster. It also leads to altered heartbeat rhythm called atrial fibrillation, which has been reported in young people who consumed energy drinks containing extremely high doses of caffeine. When a heart beats too fast the condition is called tachycardia. Tachycardia is the medical term for a heart rate thats approximately over 100 beats per minute. There are many heart rhythm disorders referring to arrhythmias that can cause tachycardia. Heart Arrhythmia is caused by changes in the electrical system of your heart which may lead to fainting, and can be life-threatening. In some cases, your heart's rhythm may be so erratic that it can cause sudden death.
https://jsmorton-my.sharepoint.com/:w:/r/personal/pulidjam000_jsmorton_org/_layouts/15/Doc.aspx?sourcedoc=%7BBB0E5EDB-8BE8-45B8-9EAD-E6C7CED5B4A8%7D&file=Heart%20Autopsy%20-%20Crack%20the%20case.docx&wdOrigin=OFFICECOM-WEB.START.MRU&ct=1607710654957&action=default&mobileredirect=true

Blood Spatter Analysis

If blood was present at the scene, What did the spatter pattern indicate? The blood was present at the scene and the spatter pattern indicates Force and Direction. It indicates force and direction because the spatters with an elliptical or elongated shape struck the surface at an angle. This often means that an external force was applied that provided horizontal velocity in a given direction to the droplets. The more elongated the droplet the faster they were moving. The long tail of each droplet indicates the direction it was moving when it struck the surface. When there is an injury the pattern in the blood leaves to the surfaces and tells a story. It can help us investigators distinguish between an accident and foul play and it can help them determine if a weapon caused the injury. A bloodstain pattern or blood spatter can even provide information about the location of the blood source referring to the point of origin. The Blood spatter analysts examine the location, distribution and shape of blood droplets, stains, puddles, and pools.

https://jsmorton-my.sharepoint.com/:w:/r/personal/pulidjam000_jsmorton_org/_layouts/15/Doc.aspx?sourcedoc=%7BDBEA4E5B-BBC1-412B-96F8-E472094F525D%7D&file=Blood%20Spatter%20Analysis-%20Jamilet%20Pulido.docx&action=default&mobileredirect=true

Toxicology Analysis

I have observed the toxicology analysis. The first substance is Caffeine this specimen tested positive with a blood concentration of 85mg/L. Concentrations in blood between 15-20mg/L are considered elevated but nontoxic. Levels between 80-180mg/L have been associated with caffeine related fatalities as we can notice Marcel Newgard has a 85mg/L of caffeine. Caffeine is consider a central nervous system(CNS) that can cause health consequences which are sleeplessness, anxiety, rapid heart rate including death if consume in mass quantities. The amount of caffeine that can last in our body system is by at first it reaches a peak level in our blood within 30 to 60 minutes. It has a half-life of 3 to 5 hours. The half-life is the time it takes for your body to eliminate half of the drug. The remaining caffeine can stay in your body for a long time. Ethanol specimen tested negative with 0 mg/L. Opiates specimen tested negative with 0mg/L . Methamphetamine specimen tested negative with 0 mg/L. Cocaine specimen tested negative with 0 mg/L. Cannabinoids specimen tested negative with 0 mg/L. Acetaminophen specimen tested positive with a blood concentration of 30mg/L. Concentrations in blood between 5-20mg/L are considered therapeutic. Levels between 25-150mg/L are toxic. Lethal concentrations are 160mg/L or greater. Acetaminophen is a pain reliever that contains caffeine. Its the exact mechanism of action its unknown but it is believed to stop pain signals from being sent through the body. We can notice Marcel Newgard had a 30mg/L of acetaminophen which is consider toxic. The amount of caffeine and the amount of acetaminophen might have something to do with the death of the decedent Marcel Newgard. The active ingredients in the painkiller Excedrin in each tablet contains Acetaminophen 250 mg, Aspirin 250 mg, and Caffeine 65 mg. As we know Marcel Newgard was already consuming caffeine with a amount of 85mg/L which is associated with caffeine related fatalities.

https://jsmorton-my.sharepoint.com/:w:/r/personal/pulidjam000_jsmorton_org/_layouts/15/Doc.aspx?sourcedoc=%7BF1AB033D-72CA-4AC0-BD5C-1B55C1430080%7D&file=Toxicology%20Results-%20Marcel%20Newgard%20Case.docx&wdOrigin=OFFICECOM-WEB.START.MRU&ct=1607614891826&action=default&mobileredirect=true
