It can occur due to different human activities if people are not careful when dealing with nature. Many people clear out trees in the Amazon rain forest for agricultural reasons, or for logging, which has strict licensing yet humans still illegally cut and sell trees for their own benefit without replanting the trees. Both agriculture and logging can cause soil erosion, which may mean the chances of trees growing back within that area naturally is low. Oil extraction can also cause deforestation, runoff oil can negatively affect the environment around and kill trees. Cattle ranching is another cause of deforestation. In order for the cattle to have a ranches to live in, an area in the Amazon rain forest must be cleared out.
