This is the race for the first seat for Tennessee in the Senate. This seat is open due to incumbent Sen. Bob Corker (R) announcing he would not seek re-election in 2018. It is described by CNN as "the single most important race in the country".

The Two Candidates are Marsha Blackburn (R) and Phil Bredesen (D). Blackburn has served in Tennessee for 15 years for both the state senate and the House of Representatives. Bredesen has made a political comeback of sorts, having been Governor of the state from 2003-2011, and is now running for the open senate seat. The race was made even more Popular when Pop star Taylor Swift gave her endorsement to Bredesen via a passionate Instagram Post.

The Latest RealClearPolitics poll (as of Nov 2nd) has Blackburn ahead of Bredesen 49.2% to 44% on average. Project FiveThirtyEight by ABC has Blackburn up 51.2% to 45.7%. Averaging the two, you get Blackburn at 50.2% and Bredesen at 44.8%.
The race was at its closest in mid September, when the two were locked in at 46.%, however it has obviously stretched in Blackburns favor.

My Thoughts

I believe this race will end closer than what the polls suggest, however, realistically, Blackburn should be able to ride the current momentum towards a victory. Tennessee has not voted a Democrat to office since 2006. That combined with how large the polling difference has become in the past month and a half, it should be in the bag for Blackburn. However, one thing that should give Democrats hope is that as the poll samples get higher, the gap lessens between the two. So we'll just have to wait and see.
