In Newtown, Connecticut on December 14, 2012, Sandy Hook Elementary became known for one of the largest mass school shootings that ever occurred in US history. 26 people–20 students and six adults– were shot and killed as well as 2 injuries recorded from the incident. Earlier that year, the school initiated a new security system that locked entries to the building at 9:30 AM, but the culprit did not care and set off the alarms. Adam Lanza, 20, walked into the building fully armed with ~700 students in attendance. He was the kind of person who isolated himself from society and he was built up from hatred–killing his mother some time before his big attack on the school and committing suicide after the genocide on the same day. Some time later, President Obama visits the school after the horrific event, comforting and ensuring all civilians of Newtown and the rest of the US are safe. Barack speaks on behalf of all the terrified Americans that the nation must work together to bear responsibility and the ties of everyone’s trust to stop another incident like this from ever happening again. Because school shootings have become large for years (as of 2012), this mass shooting set the example of growing hatred and fear because people were divided and prideful.

Great Recession of 2008 1

From 2007 to 2009, the United States economy suffered one of the greatest droughts in history. The US had not experienced a drought so fearsome since the Great Depression a century earlier, and this made its name known around the world as the Great Recession of 2008. It was marked by declining Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and stock performance and high rates of foreclosures and unemployment. The recession was caused by two main industries: banking and housing in which they contributed to the 2006 subprime mortgage crisis, so risky lending practices led to the collapse of these sectors, paving the way for the Great Recession to commence. Bear Stearns and the Leahman Brothers companies, 3 of the largest companies on earth at the time, failed and sparked trouble for the US economy in a short matter of time. When the Lehman Brothers declared what was reportedly the largest bankruptcy filing in US history, government institutions began assisting these firms to keep them from shutting down. The U.S. government attempted to diminish the effects of the recession through the establishment of various initiatives and programs designed to revitalize the economy and encourage lending. During Obama's first term, the 2010 Dodd-Frank Act gave the government more control over the financial sectors and provided consumer protections in order to prevent the issues which led to the Great Recession. What could have been the second Great Depression ended in June 2009, but the US economy was slow to recover, leaving many people worse off than before. As such, the Great Recession impacted politics as well as economic interests but it would appear that America was trying to help the most powerful companies from failing, only it would make them look more socialist than capitalist to the American people.

The Obama era seemed to have a soothing effect on present day America, but at the same came to give vision to the American people. In January 2013, the Sandy Hook Promise was established after the horrific incident that occurred a month earlier. It is a is an American 501 nonprofit organization that works for gun violence prevention programs and policy making. As for students and adults nationwide they are trained to know the signs of gun violence so that no parent experiences the tragic, preventable loss of their child. For years, school shootings were overlooked even after the Columbine High School Massacre of 1999, but Sandy Hook's massacre was enough to tell America that this is a nationwide issue. Americans are now more aware than ever to see and take part in the fight, but in order for everyone to stop this hate all must come together and unite against evil. There exist deniers such as Alex Jones, a conspiracy theorist who called it a “hoax,” and in October 2018, he and his company InfoWars were sued for defamation by Neil and Scarlet Lewis. They are the parents of their fallen child in the massacre and established a foundation, the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement, which promotes emotional intelligence education at the elementary‐school level. All things considered, the Obama era told all the people America that if the truth is denied, it is prone to invite more violence in the future. The United States cannot wait for one specific moment of peace to come right at them; they must prepare to fight for peace even if it never arrives.

The Great Recession was sparked by the bursting of the United States housing bubble, fueled by an unsustainable increase in housing prices, lax lending practices, and a proliferation of mortgage-backed securities as these issues are still large to this day. Bear Stearns and the Leahmen Brothers companies fell and collapsed as the economy's powerhouses in 2008. While the worst of the recession was over by mid-2009, its effects were felt for years to come. Many countries faced sluggish economic growth, high unemployment rates, and a slow recovery in housing markets. The Great Recession also led to significant changes in financial regulations and increased scrutiny of the banking sector to prevent similar crises in the future. The coronavirus gave us the most recent recession and had a similar effect on the US economy as well as the world’s by challenging the housing bubble, company stability as well as worker stability, and initiating quarantine. It was a crisis no one had prepared for and resulted in millions of deaths attacking the market. However, we managed to recover from the debt covid had put us through a lot faster than the recession of 08. Covid-19 had a similar effect on the US economy as well as the world’s by challenging the housing bubble, company stability as well as worker stability, and initiating quarantine. There was also the global stock market crash of 2022 which sparked from the rising tensions between Ukraine and Russia. From all this, America had learned from its dark past and recovered way quicker than before. People have become aware now that these issues can be so big as to destroy lives and countries, and now we have learned how to overcome them since the Obama era.
