Hello everyone! My name is Jaquelin but I prefer to be called Jackie. It's nice to meet you all, I hope we work well together. This is my second year at Stan state as a Psychology major. As a person like myself I like to do various activities. I enjoy traveling, going to concerts, and spending time with family members. Luckily enough I was able to do all of these things before the pandemic started. I’ve included a picture of my trip to Paris that I took a few years ago. Traveling at most is something that I never seem to find myself not liking as each experience has been phenomenal. Other countries have so much to offer and see which is why for me gives reason to go out and explore the world. As an introverted person doing so has helped a lot overall, It is very much appreciated to not only have fun but to learn about other cultures. Now of course I just now enjoy most of my time watching dramas, listening to music, and training my new puppy. I'm a friendly person so don't hesitate to ask a question or become a friend! It's nice to meet new people, I wish you all a great semester.

What sustainability is to me is the ordeal of making something work alongside society. Using our knowledge to create values, plans, ideas to make our world a better place. That way everyone can live in a suitable condition. Typically how I partake in this is community service, although my act of help is so small it does make a difference. Whether it be planting new plants in your community, recycling, or helping someone with their financial issues is what makes sustainability work. As there's various ways to look at sustainability it's best to view it from all sides and how it benefits us.

Information literacy is in terms of what sources are presented to us and how we use them. We apply these to real world situations in order to gain insight and perspective. Everyday we retain new information about the world through social media and news outlets. This is how information literacy applies to us and how we interpret it, and it may not always be credible. Information literacy is found through much of everything and it's for us to distinguish what we chose to believe and how to conclude what is factual.

What I would like to learn about these topics are to learn about ways to integrate them into our lives. I myself aren’t familiar with too much information about both these topics so I like to see not only my knowledge but what new information we will be learning and how others acknowledge it. It’s good to see all perspectives for both of these topics to recongnize how to use these within both real world and written work. Thus finding more information can bring a greater view of how it functions both individually and throughout society.

Topic Proposal

In recent years there has been an issue that has been taken into notice especially in today's world of social media. More than ever we are buying so much from different outlets not taking notice of where these items are coming from or how they were made. The topic I’m proposing is the impact of fast fashion consumption and it’s environmental damage. This topic would fall under the pillar of environmental sustainability. It’s unfortunate to know that most of us and many others have most likely bought from these industries because it’s not something you think of at the very moment before purchasing. However this “fast fashion” is what pollutes most landfills and materials that end up in the ocean. Fast fashion is nearly entirely made of plastic in which most of us are unaware of, harmful to our environment. It creates both concern and damage to the world that we live in.

This is directed not only to the people but to the industries having easy access to selling these items to the general public. On the US market we have brands such as H&M, ZARA, ASOS, Uniqlo, Shien, and many more. Behind the scenes are what are truly important in this factor and should not be tolerated. These retailers are the reason many are taken advantage of, not aware of the kind of environmental damage they are partaking in. It's critical to think that many of these brands are thriving within this generation leading up to more non disposable items that end up where they shouldn’t. Fast fashion is located right under our fingertips, it’s online, instore, and in front of our faces. This is how industries make money, our own satisfaction of temporary items, and years of harm to the environment. It’s important to ensure the individuals will gain a better understanding of how we can change this.

At this very moment it has developed into what we see as earth's environment injury. As more people are buying, more companies are selling which thus leads up to ongoing consumption of fast fashion manufacturing. Though I have seen improvement of awareness with this issue all throughout social media. This is a big improvement of environmental sustainability. Many have been re-educated, called out, about the effects these brands brought to the environment. To endorse these brands because they are cheap and are easily accessible should no longer be an option. As new small businesses are rising, it’s better to invest into quality biodegradable clothing than purchasing something that would cause harm to both us and this earth. I think this is important because we live in a society that has ongoing trends and looks that bring us to buying new clothes. So being aware of what you buy can change how you affect our environment.

I'm hoping to learn of other ways I could help promote the effects of fast fashion and ways we can help avoid buying it. Also to learn how these companies make money in comparison to companies who don’t use fast fashion. I’d like to learn about more options and more ways that can help. As much that has been wasted and thrown out, there can be ways that can help prevent more individuals buying fast fashion as well as being aware of the environmental consequences. Environmental sustainability is a must and finding alternative resources can make a difference. As for a question, maybe suggest companies or businesses that are eco-friendly? It would be a great suggestion for both myself and our student peers.

Looking over, “A Year After George Floyed Killing Fewer Americans Support Black Lives Matter, Poll Finds.” by Palash Ghosh you can find well structured data that serves inforth of the Black Lives Matter movement. The message that Ghosh was trying to convey was how both race and politcal party are affiliated with the way people reacted soon after the death of George Floyed. Mentioning, "The poll found some divergence in views by race and party affiliation." Using the technique of logos Ghosh notices the difference of favor both in racial justice and police violence. The technique used to justify this claim that fewer support the movement is by using the technique logos. Logos is presented in this article by using data. For example Ghosh stated, "The public’s views on Black Lives Matter also diverged widely by race and party: 84% of Blacks and 76% of Democrats currently hold a favorable view of the movement, while only 56% of whites and 36% of Republicans do. ." This ordeal with how these groups of indivudals reacted proves to valiadate what this author's message is trying to send. How there is this difference of thoughts and customs based off their politcal party as well as race. You can identify that the data provided is to prove the mindset of these parties and what their preferences are based on the party they support. As time has passed views are changing and Ghosh appeared to take notice and tested this study by gathering exactly two thousand adults. This message is supposed to let the audience be aware of how the people reacted to the movement while providing data with numbers on Demoncrats, Republicans, Blacks and Whites take on the movement. This is why Ghosh subjects to racial injustice and how this correlates back to the data numbers and how each race and party is conflicted over such a movement.

The authority that Ghosh holds as an experienced writer is with the twenty plus years of experience. Specialising in writing financial marketing alongside his other favorite interests. This in itself certifies not only with Forbes but also with International Business Times, Forbes Japan, Indian Express and much more. Recognizing these efforts it means their work is reliable as it posted on well trusted platforms. This isn't speculation but factual and opinionated thoughts about how people reacted over the issues that occurred during the movement and how people felt about there after. However, this conversation can be continued by taking this info of both race and party and taking it to a higher poll all across the nation. This could essentially be a more accurate representation as well as pinpointing areas of where those who are Liberal or Conservative and if they were effected by this movement. Opening up options can create room to continue on about the differences of reaction. As much as there is data to prove that a political party is affiliated with race it’s a way of showing just how much this was reflected upon the movement and it’s purpose. This applies to all races, political parties, police violence, and racial justice. Ghosh wanted to set an example of how those who recognized these issues from the start actually started declining as the number of months went by. This is up for a continued discussion among those of the nation because as much as of an impact this movement has had the numbers tested say otherwise.

My experience chatting with a Stan State librarian was fairly quick and easy. I asked about scholarly journals on sustainable fashion as a start and they gave me various outlets to choose from. General one being able to use one search but also suggested using Academic search, and using environmental studies as a category to find more options on that specific topic. Also being able to direct me to how to use the limiter option to gather results on a lot more scholar/peer reviewed journals. This definitely helped me as they were considerate to giving me various options rather then one. I will make use out of these options as well as use this feature again since it's very helpful and reliable.

Narrative about topic: My initial narrative falls under the idea that fashion sustainability helps the environment as companies formulate a system that will utilize degradable fabrics. In terms of acknowledging the opposite my antithesis insinuates that fashion sustainability does not help the environment directly but focusing on the clothing itself marking clothes that are partially sustainable "sustainable" claiming to be something their not entirely, this way it would be easier to make profit rather than thinking of the environment itself that desperately need change that companies have already caused damage to.

The counter narrative: My counterargument is that companies should be able to entirely make a system that would wipe out the use of polyester and other damaging materials. It may essentially cost more but promoting a more stabilized and inspirational option can change things faster. This strategy can bring focus to both the clothing and the environment as it targets this challenge benefiting both companies and the environment.

How the counter narrative can help solve the problem you are writing about: My counter-narrative can help solve the problem I’m writing about if companies didn’t focus too much on profit rather than thinking about the environment. It will wipe out the entire option of purchasing unethical goods from all platforms and help the environment out in so many ways. They can do so by using accessible alternatives such as cotton, silk, linen, lyocell and more. Companies should invest in such materials as there is less damage in the process of making something that will be more efficient that individuals can promote and make use of long term.

Case number: VR6/117/916

Incident: Murder

Reporting officer: Joshua Kim

Date of report: Oct. 3, 2017

At 1355 hours on Thursday Oct. 2, 2017 Karen Zandarski was found dead on scene electrocuted near her laptop as witness Janis Klay reported during the 911 call. Arriving on scene reports were made that there was surveillance found outside of 3220 Neptune Way in Modesto, CA directly facing the home of the victim without Zandarskis knowledge at around 1300 hours. Progressing onto watching the footage of Zandarskis whereabouts during this time Zandarski was seen arriving home to enter the household until a suspect appeared leaving the household at around 1359 hours. A search was warranted immediately in the surrounding area. It was indicated that the suspect was female but could not make sufficient evidence to identify the female due to the blur defect of the surveillance camera. Entering the household, female Karen Zandarski described green eyes, 5’1, age 40, and white. Zandarski was in fact deceased near her laptop but was made aware that she was in the bathtub, water filled, laptop directly connected to the outlet. Investigators suspect this lies under suspicious circumstances that the suspect could have partook in. I was made aware there were multiple fingerprints located on the doorknob of the victims bathroom where the body was found which was sent to forensics for more information. As more footage was being overlooked we were able to match the time frame according to the found weapon the suspect was seen leaving the weapon under a pile of leaves.

In a matter of a couple of hours we were able to identify suspect Paloma Fracis who is known as one of Zadarskis acquaintances who was on scene during the timeframe implicated towards Zandarskies death. As the weapon was in my possession, fingerprints both on the weapon as well as the doorknob to the bathroom matched suspect Paloma Francis and the warrant for her arrest was notified. Suspect Francis was found hiding at a local park three miles away from the home and was arrested on scene for the murder of Karen Zandarski. Paloma Francis confessed during the arrest and made note that Zandarski was made to seem as if she committed an accidental death. The weapon was an electrical stick that was struck into the back of Zandarskies neck and the body was taken to the tub to appear she was electrocuted accidentally. Gathering all evidence suspect Paloma Francis was commited on all accounts of murder with the intent to flee the scene without punishment thus making an official arrest.
