Головна мета свята — привернути увагу влади, громадськості та промислових структур до цієї теми. У сучасному світі проблема накопичення відходів стоїть особливо гостро з двох основних причин, наслідки яких можуть бути дуже плачевними для людства. З одного боку, запаси природних ресурсів, наявних на Землі, не безмежні. Нераціональне їх використання призвело до того, що на сьогоднішній день людство вже витратило приблизно третина цих ресурсів. Саме тому важливо витрачати їх економно, одночасно підшукуючи їм альтернативу і займаючись вторинною переробкою вже використаної сировини. З іншого боку, однією з причин глобального потепління називають «парниковий ефект», в тому числі через величезні гір промислового та побутового сміття. Люди викидають тонни поліетиленових пакетів, всіляких упаковок, покришок, побутової техніки та інших відходів, розкладання яких триватиме століттями. «Сміття треба грамотно утилізувати, а ще краще — переробляти, даючи вже використаному сировині друге життя», — вважають екологи. В першу чергу, на їх думку, вихід із критичної ситуації потрібно шукати на рівні держав. That is why it is important to spend them economically, at the same time looking for an alternative to them and by recycling already used raw materials.On the other hand, one of the reasons for global warming is called the "greenhouse effect", including through the huge mountains of industrial and household rubbish. People are throwing tons of plastic bags, all kinds of packages, tires, household appliances and other wastes, which will decompose for centuries."Garbage should be properly disposed of, and even better - to recycle, giving the second raw material already used", environmentalists say. First of all, in their opinion, the exit from a critical situation should be sought at the level of states.
