"I know not what to say, but give me your hands. God send you joy, Petruchio. 'Tis a match." (2.1.337-338)

-Petruchio made Baptista think he and Katherine were a perfect match, and Baptista decided it was a great idea that they could get married. It is unfair that Katherine got no say in the decision to carry out the marriage. She did not get to be a part of the decision making and share her opinion. The men just got to decide the marriage would happen, and it really didn't matter to them what Katherine thought.

Petruchio: "Your father hath consented / That you shall be my wife, your dowry ‘greed on, / And will you, nill you, I will marry you. / Now Kate, I am a husband for your turn, / For by this light, whereby I see thy beauty / Thy beauty that doth make me like thee well / Thou must be married to no man but me. /For I am he am born to tame you, Kate, / And bring you from a wild Kate to a Kate/ Conformable as other household Kates" (2.1.284-293).

This is problematic in many ways. First Petruchio tells Katherine that he will marry her without asking for her opinion. Then he describes himself as born to tame her. This implies that he thinks she is a wild beast and must be controlled. These actions are wrong because he does not have power over her.

Hortensio: "Is that she is intolerable curst,/ And shrewd, and forward, so beyond all measure/ That, were my state far worse that it is,/ I would not wed her for a mine of gold" (1.2.90-93).

This is problematic because Katherine's behavior is independent and unwilling for a husband, which is disliked in this period. Hortensio now sees her as unlikable and unweddable because she does not want a man and does not want to succumb to society's standards. This quote implies that he thinks that women who do not follow society are unlikable and annoying.

"She moves me not, or not removes at least/ Affection's edge in me, were she as rough/ As are the swelling Adriatic seas. I come to wive it wealthily in Padua;/ If wealthily, then happily in Padua" (Shakespeare 1.2.73-77).

Petruchio's problematic character is displayed as he quickly agrees to marry Katherine. Despite hearing of her cruel and quick tempered personality, he agrees to marry her because of her wealth. He explains that he is only marrying Katherine for her riches and doesn't care about her personality.

Bianca: "Sir, to your pleasure humbly I subscribe. / My books and instruments shall be my company, / On them to look and practice by myself" (Shakespeare 1.1 82-84).

Bianca's problematic character is displayed when she agrees to do every single thing that men tell her to. With her constant obedience, she just does what they tell her to do. This way of acting will never allow her to experience things she actually likes. This is problematic because she may never gain her own independence.

Petruchio: "To me she is married, not unto my clothes" (Shakespeare 3.2 119).

Petruchio showed up to his own wedding dressed in old, worn down, and untasteful clothes. He is using these words to justify his poor actions, but in reality he is just causing conflict and problems for everyone involved in the wedding day.
