What was awesome was starting the year off with a consultation with Mrs. Schneiderman. Through this I learned that, as consultants, we can be just as useful to someone with more experience than us as we can be to someone with less experience. Making sure that the paper is easy to understand from the perspective of someone with less knowledge about the topic. This is especially true for grammatical errors or the flow of the paper. Currently I don’t have any questions or concerns.

I was very nervous to begin consulting as a novice. I was worried that I was going to mess up and not be helpful to my clients. However, my first quarter in the Scribe has gone amazing. I have learned so many tips and tricks that I would have never thought about. For example, I had a few clients come in that needed help with brainstorming. I decided to use mind maps to get all their ideas down on paper, and they ended up being extremely helpful. I have also learned about the kind of consulting style that I have. I learned that I like to take a more direct approach. I ask the client what they want to work on, and we work through the issues they are having. My first two consultations were with my friends for their Great Gatsby essay. We made mind maps, and I later asked on how helpful the mind maps were. They said it was helpful when writing their essay and gave them lots of great ideas. I was extremely proud of myself that I was able to help them figure out their thesis and essay. As of right now, I don’t have any questions or concerns. I’m looking forward to continuing consulting in quarter two and improving upon the skills I have learned.

During this quarter, I learned a lot about my leadership style. I take an indirect approach during consultations, indicating that I have a leadership style that involves collaboration. Through this information, I was able to learn about how to interact with other people - while there are few "wrong" ways to talk to people, I've come to find that some ways are better than others. For example, telling jokes to build rapport works wonders.

This quarter was AMAZING. It was wonderful to get to meet new people and interact with our language, so I'm thankful for this experience! I love nothing more than to socialize and feel like I'm helping people, meaning working with The Scribe was one of the best decisions I've made. Furthermore, I've been able to apply the things I've learned from other people to my writing, which has helped me grow as a writer.

Sometimes I get a little stressed from the workload at Renaissance (which extracurriculars only add to), though that's a part of Renaissance Life™. The stress is my only concern, and I've been working on ways to effectively manage it, so I've got no complaints. :)

This is my first year consulting and I have already learned so much. Being put in the a position where I'm not an expert in on a topic while collaborating to write a paper with a client who is an expert has been a truly interesting and insightful type of experience. I have learned so much about how to share my perspectives while listening and learning from the perspectives of others. The Scribe has challenged me in ways that I wouldn't ever have had the opportunity to experience in a standard writing class and I'm very thankful for it!
