Whitewashing murals basically takes away from the raw feeling and meaning of a mural and its oppressive in that way. CPAG has been creating and preserving murals to continue spreading messages in this city, this is a tradition and they see it as their responsibility to uphold that. We photographed and hung a poster of the original one next to the new one so students could always remember what was there. I felt like I just saw generations of art from the ancestors of Chicago itself.
White washing takes away the voices of people now and from the past, and might take the future's as well. Art can't save the world if we're getting rid of it, right?
But the people who made murals, 
the people who saw murals, the people who lived with them around them, 
They still live on. And as long as they're still around, the murals could never die out. We will preserve the murals, from this generation to the next. We'll have those murals forever, whether in this life or the next.

Murals are a main way that Chicago history has been represented, especially on the South Side.
