Flight Software Engineer

I want to be a flight software engineer because I think that aerospace is one of the coolest industries out there. Developing flight software would allow me to work in that industry while also using my skills I have learned in school.

Working in a Team

While I have lot of experience working on teams for school I think that it will be important to learn how to work in a team of professionals with some of them having much more experience than I do. Learning to balance asking questions with figuring things out on my own will be an interesting skill to learn.

Industry Best Practices

One of the things we do not get that much into during university classes is industry standards for how code and projects should be formatted. As I am entering the workforce to I will have to spend extra time making sure that I am writing code that not only works but is also up to industry standards for naming, spacing, and organization.

Aerospace

I think that Space is one of the most impressive things that humans as a whole do. I would love to be in this industry, contributing to the forefront of science and/or technology. Aerospace, by its very nature, requires everything to be as prefect as it can be. While this is scary it is also encouraging because it means that you are on top of your game every step of the way.

Healthcare

This is another industry that requires computer scientists and everyone else in it to strive for their very best because of how impactful it is. There are countless data science and analytic jobs in this industry that would be both mentally stimulating and important for me to do.

Bachelors of Science in CS

This is the degree I am currently getting. It exposes you to a number of fundamental computer science ideas as well as ways to approach a problem computationally. As with all college degrees it also proves to a potential employer that you are willing and able to accomplish something you set out to do.

Google Data Analytics Certificate

Google offers a number of certificates to show that you are proficient in doing something. The data analytics certificate would be particularly helpful to me because it would make getting a job in data science easier. I assume I would refresh on many of the analytical ideas I already know and hopefully learn some more completing the certificate.

Sam Altman

Sam Altman is the CEO of OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. ChatGPT and other LLM AI models are changing the way people live their daily lives. While I don't agree with absolutely everything he does I do think that looking at him as a prominent figure in the computer science space is untenable and the impact that he has had on AI will be felt for decades to come.

Linus Torvalds

Bro literally made Linux and Git. Without these two tools computer science would be decades behind where it is today. It is nearly impossible to exist in the space without coming into contact and using the things that he made. He is an inspiration to all computer scientists because he know how useful his creations would be that he lets people use it for free.

Task Scheduling Tool

I have the idea of a tool that helps me prioritize my work by having a system that takes into account many important pieces of information about a task. The tool would then allow me to simply press a give me my next task button and it would tell me what to work on next.

2d Planetary Body Simulator

I think it would be an interesting project to build a model of the solar system or just a planetary body simulator. I think that implementing either N body calculations or possibly even patched conics physics would be an interesting challenge that would teach me about not just programming but some physics along the way as well.

Connecting with people on LinkedIn is a great way to do networking. I have talked to a friend from high school and he talked about how he got his current job mainly thought LinkedIn. He said that his current employer saw that he worked for a few sports teams before and that he also knew someone that worked where he now currently worked. They reached out to him simply because of who he knew.

Attend CU Data Science Career Fair on 2/25/2025

Job fairs are a great place to network with potential employers. Its a good way to start looking for jobs as well.

Spend Vacation Time Traveling

I think traveling is one of the coolest things out there that you can do I want to go places and do things. I understand that this may not be as relaxing as just staying home but it strikes me as the type of thing I will be much more disappointed in myself later in life if I don't do that.

Socialize with Co-Workers

I feel like in many places there is a culture that you can't/shouldn't be friends with you co-workers. I feel like this is wrong and can lead to being dissatisfied in the work environment. Even if they aren't my best friends I want to make an effort to be friendly with the people I work with.

This quote from one of my favorite shows of all time reminds me that if I want to get good at something I'm probably going to be not all that good at it at first. This reminds me to keep my head up and that being bad at something is not the end of the world.

This quote comes from a famous distance runner. I think it applies much more broadly to life however. Doing things but not all the way will usually give unsatisfactory results. Working you hardest at something leads to a better result at the end of the day.
