Chopin's marital and cultural background influenced her work. She was raised in a bi-cultural background in a feminine environment. As for her marriage it was cut short by the death of her spouse. However femininity and marital concerns are present throughout the novel.

Damon

Kate Chopin was bi-cultural therefore several quotes in the book were said in French giving it a cultural feeling. Chopin was born in a house with slaves who did work for her which explains Edna's wealthy household and her servants who did a lot of work for her. Chopin was known as an "Irish Beauty" which explains Edna's beauty. Chopin lived a luxurious lifestyle in New Orleans and so did Edna in the awakening. Chopin's family would also spend their vacation in Grand Isle and get there by boat, just as Edna did with Robert.

Chopin's family would also spend their vacation in Grand Isle and get there by boat, just as Edna did with Robert.

Anonymous 9m
The author is surrounded by women which makes sense why the book is about feminism. Also, her husband died and she became a widow. This reflects in the book because Edna feels emptiness in her marriage.

Anonymous 8m
She had a lot of female mentors in her childhood. Her father was killed at a young age. These female mentors probably made her think of females positions in society. - Terrayah

Anonymous 6m
She was raised by the female members of her family and this helped shape why she has these different views in the book about her role. She also lived in New Orleans which is where the book takes place.

Anonymous 5m
The author has had a lot of deaths in life and the deaths were the people that was very close to her. In the book the girl was a empty person and was very confused about herself just like she was in real life- Enrico

Anonymous 3m
Uswa- Based off the time period she was born in and being primarily raised by women. Kate Chopin's influences can be seen in her works such as The Awakening certain places relate to where see lived

Anonymous 3m
Kate Chopin was raised in a predominantly female household with servants. To why her man character had servants. Also the reason their vacations are so detailed because she went there for vacation with her family. -Mikala
Your avatar

Add comment

Padlet updated elsewhere.
REFRESH

Kate Chopin had dealt with a lot of family death at a young age, and because her pieces of literature deals with strong women. I feel as if Kate Chopin writes in a view point of herself as she has blossomed to be a strong woman dealing with many obstacles
