Indian Mongooses were introduced to islands for biological control over rags and snakes. The Indian Mongooses spreaded quickly, which made it hard to get rid of them. Also, Indian Mongooses carry a human-animal disease caused by rabies. Indian Mongooses can harm a human's health within a bite.

They are recognized as falling into two subgroups, with the black-tailed and Mexican prairie dogs in one group, and the remaining three species, including the Gunnison’s, in the other group.

Livestock and other grazing animals would have lower quality vegetation to consume, as its been shown that grazing animals such as bison and deer prefer to graze over prairie dog towns for the increased nutritional profile of the vegetation surrounding them. The trimming of the grasses and vegetation leads to increase in soil upturn, which lends to more nutritionally dense vegetation.

The purple frog has a bloated body with short stout limbs and is dark purple to greyish in color. Reaching to about 7 centimeters, it has a small head in comparison to the body length, and an unusually pointed snout. Its short and muscular forelimbs with hard palms help it to burrow underground. Unlike other frogs, it has very short hind legs, which does not allow it to leap from one spot to another.

Molecular evidence has found the purple frogs to be most closely related to a family of tiny frogs only found on the Seychelles.
