He later got involved in criminal activities like drug dealing and leader of a gang.  Just like MLK they both had a goal, seek justice for the mistreatment of African Americans and the injustices of the system.  However, they had very different ways on how that could be accomplished. 
The reason why I chose Malcolm X is because he was a very controversial figure. He was more on the violence side of things. He didn't think peaceful protest were going to work, so he decided to go after people with violence. He urged his followers to defend themselves " by any means necessary". He provided the foundations needed for the Black Power and other black movements. He helped change the terms people in America were using to refer to African Americans like " negro " or " coloured " to more " appropriate " terms like " black" and " Afro-American". Malcolm X was assassinated on February 21, 1965 by three members of the Nation of Islam. Tensions between Malcolm and the Nation grew and that occurred death threats to be sent to him. The reason why he left the Nation of Islam is because him and his friend Elijah Muhammad didn't agree on where the Nation was headed. 1954 - Elijah Muhammad ( the leader of The Nation of Islam) makes Malcolm X chief minister of Harlem's Temple No. 7
1957 - A member of the New York Temple is beaten by police.  Malcolm X sues New York City and wins the largest settlement in its history.  Media covers this and brings nation attention to Malcolm, which also brings the attention of the FBI. 
1964 - Malcolm is in Washington observing a filibuster against the civil rights bill.  He meets MLK there.  MLK thought that Malcolm had made a great disservice to there people due to Malcolm's dramatic alternative to MLK"s peaceful means. 
1964 - He founded the Organization of Afro-American Unity. Which identified racism. His more moderate philosophy became influential among member of the SNCC.
1965 - Tensions growing between The Nation of Islam ( which he left ) and him caused his assassination.  He was delivering a lecture in Harlem.
