The Simpsons are a nuclear family consisting of married couple Homer and Marge and their three children Bart, Lisa and Maggie.
The iconic image of Homer strangling Bart epitomizes the best thing about the Simpson family: they don't get along. Marge's artistic aspirations are repeatedly destroyed by her family's insistence on keeping her busy with random household issues, like putting out curtain fires. Lisa's tree-hugging ways are given as much respect by her closest relatives as a meal at Krusty Burger. Bart has been abused so many times that his throat must have internal damage. And Homer… well, he's at Moe's right now.

Couple all that with a baby who shot the city's economic lifeline, and the best thing the Simpsons can do for their loved ones is what they've done to Abe: throw them out to fend for themselves.

Although the family is dysfunctional, many episodes examine their relationships and bonds with each other and they are often shown to care about one another.

The Simpsons can also be analyzed by the symbolic interactionism. A clear symbol is the roles of the members within the family. They are a nuclear one, integrated by: Homer, his wife Marge, and their three sons Bart, Lisa and Maggie.

The mother of the family’s role is really known, she is shown in many chapters as the responsable of the house caring and children’s education. Marge is even stressed and tired of her daily life.
Homer, is not a good

The Flynn nuclear family is formed by father Lawrence, mother Linda, daughter Candace and sons Phineas & Ferb. Despite the fact that sometimes, parents’ jobs aren’t much specific, Candace maintains a strange relationship with her brothers, the ones who are always playing and creating adventures. She always tries to sabotage their plans but it never works. Linda is seen many times cooking or doing some housework. If we see this family from the functionalism theory, the family takes care of the aged when necessary, socialize their children and have fun together (sometimes). There is a sexual control between members, and despite they don’t show this, the economic production or maintenance is something we can deduct. It fulfills the tasks to be named as functional, but we must highlight the strange relationship between siblings, because that is the thing that gives development to the serie - Pini Santiago.

We can analyse Coco’s family. We can see how there is the father, mother, and child, which are the nuclear family; but also the grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, and more, which are all the extended family. They are also a big family of orientation, because they live all together and help their children grow up, helping each other and taking the other’s responsibilities when necessary. Analyzing this family by the symbolic interactionism, we can see the different roles of the members within the family. Woman are left in the house with children and occupy about the household and education. Instead men, occupy of working and maintaining the family. In this case, men work on shoes and everything related to it. They are very close to each other, even relatives who aren’t bloodily related.

Los Increíbles are a nuclear family. Consisting of the married and the 3 children. This family can be analyzed from the symbolic interactionism. The role of the woman of the family was socially settled to be to take care of the house and children. And the role of men was to work and maintain the family. In the second movie of Los increíbles this symbol is changed as Elastic Girl is the one that works and Bob has to stay at home to takes care of the children.
Catalina Calvo

The Baker Family is a nuclear family that consist in a married couple Kate and Tom, and their 12 children: Nora, Charlie, Lorraine, Henry, Sarah, Jake, Mark, Jessica & Kim (twins), Mike and Kyle & Nigel (twins). We can analyze this family with symbolic interactionism: the role of members of the family. Once the children come Kate quit her job and started taking care of the household. However when Kate's book was going to be published, she went on a book tour for two weeks. In that time the roles change, as Kate was out working while Tom had to take care of the household and children. Each of the kids has a job to do to keep the house standing, which helps a lot to the parents. Mark's role in the family is being the outcasted because of his different qualities, and gets picked up; then most of the younger children play the role of troublemakers, with their own particular role, as for example Sarah being the mastermind behind the prank, or the twins Kyle & Nigel being the ones that take the blame as they are the youngest. Also the bigger siblings have a role in the family, for example Nora being the eldest as a "second mom", or Lorraine the one obsessed with fashion.
Felicitas Ibarra

the ingalls family was a nuclear family that consisted on a married couple, Charles and caroline, and their 3 daughters: mary, laura and carrie. they were the main protagonists of their own tv show (based on the books written by laura ingalls). there were a group of colonists that move into the state of Minnesota in 1874, building a little house on the plains. we can analyze them with the functionalism theory: charles ingalls was a hard worker, doing everything he could do to maintain his family. he was a man of principles and high ethical and moral values, he also tried to teach her daughters to follow his example in the way of living. also, he was very religious, going to church every sunday with his whole family. due to his friendly character, he was always ready to help anyone who needed him. caroline ingalls was your typical household mother for those times, she always took care of the house chores, making it an important role on the education of her daughters, teaching them how to cook, sew and other types of chores. she was the one in charge to maintain her family united upon every complicated situation. like charles, she was a good tempered woman, who loved her husband and her children, and just like him, she wanted the best education for their girls, sending them to a little town school (1 teacher for every degree) so they could study and learn. she was also very religious, just like charles. finally, the girls always help their parents at taking care of the house and their small farm. they were good manered and loved playing with other children, and they were loved by everyone on the small town. they were always well combed and clean dressed (despite the family being poor). as the seasons go by, the family progressed and the girls grew older, and got married. despite the growth of the family, they were always united by positive values, being a great example of a truly functional family.
