Gently position a well-prepared clay lump onto the wheel head's center. Activate the wheel and, using moistened hands, apply gradual, even pressure to center the clay. This foundational step is crucial for crafting balanced and symmetrical pottery.

Opening:

Use your thumbs to delicately create a central depression in the clay, gradually unfolding the form. Maintain centered positioning and ensure consistently even walls throughout.

Vidhi is a politics student, I am an Environmental Studies student and Hera is a Psychology student. So getting to work on a presentation like this was a very enriching and refreshing experience. The three of us are also artists who brought something about our art into the group. Vidhi is a theatre artist and Hera is a percussionist and beatboxer while I am a pianist and singer which is why this was a really fun experience for all of us to share.

It not only deepened our understanding of specific instruments but also encouraged a broader appreciation for the global tapestry of musical traditions. It highlighted the interconnectedness of communities through the universal language of music while celebrating the unique cultural expressions embedded in each musical tradition.

Making and Attaching the Neck:

Should the Udu drum incorporate a neck or an extended segment, meticulously fix it to the main body. Ensure a steadfast connection to avoid breakage during the firing process.

His most moving piece of art for me was the whistling water jars/ vessels. These vessels are crafted to contain water, and when lifted and tilted, the movement of air from one chamber to another produces a distinctive "whistle" — not exactly a whistle, but a profoundly resonant tone that communicates with us in a voice that appears to emanate from an age-old spirit encapsulated within.
