She lived on a farm with her five brothers and sisters along with her mother Ida and father Francis O´Keeffe. At the age of twelve, she took her first art class and immediately fell in love with drawing. Growing up on a farm, Georgia was fascinated by the colors and objects. This sparked her interest in nature. The motivated little girl devoted her time to becoming an artist by the time she reached 8th grade. She attended the Sacred Heart Academy for high school and received a medal for an improvement in Art. Georgia's art teacher encouraged her to take a closer look at flowers. As a result, she became interested in their colors and shades. This gifted artist attended an art institute in Chicago. After, she went to an art students league where she learned how to paint using realistic techniques. Georgia went to Columbia where she created abstract charcoal drawings. In 1915, this artist also took an art class at the University of Virginia where she began making more abstract creations. Alfred Stieglitz, who later married O'Keeffe, displayed her artwork without her knowing. After discussing her work together, she agreed to let him show it all the time. One year later, this remarkable painter had her first solo show in 1917. Later, she began  painting larger scale close-ups of flowers. Some of her most her most famous paintings of flowers were Oriental Poppies, Jimson Weed, and the White Flower.
