<title>Colombia’s aviation authority allowed the country’s largest private airline, Avianca, to hire foreign workers to curb the effects of a pilot strike. Some 700 pilots went on strike to demand better labor conditions two weeks ago.The strike left Avianca without half its pilots, forcing the airline to cancel more than 3,000 flights, which has affected 280,000 passengers.Avianca CEO German Efromovich asked authorities to declare the strike illegal, which would allow him to fire the striking pilots. The decision of Aerocivil allows any airliner hit by a strike to hire foreign pilots for a period of three months.According to Avianca, it has already received more than 1,800 job applications to replace the strikers demanding 30% more wages after a 15-year dispute.Aerocivil restricted the employment of foreign pilots, demanding at least one of two pilots on board an aircraft must be Colombian.Foreign pilots assuming command over an airplane must speak Spanish if they want to land on national airports.A foreign cockpit commander additionally must have done a course on Colombian flight regulations.</title>

<title>help with the investigation. The tough reticence of Marcos clashes with the imposing loquacity of Leo who taunts the ranger’s apparent naiveté with his bleak misanthropic remarks. Leo’s attitude also hurts Camila when he shows little enthusiasm about their relationship and the idea of being a father.</title>

<title>The plot develops at an exasperating slow pace and the investigation about the mysterious animal deaths seems to be going nowhere. Camila and Leo are as clueless as the movie viewers about what is happening. An abrupt and crude explanatory dialogue between Camila and Marcos’ brother fills the missing pieces of the puzzle and reveals the religious motif behind the movie.</title>

<title>Marcos’s taciturn character turns into an ominous presence as he stalks the couple and gets himself in awkward situations with other visitors of the park. It becomes clear that his odd behaviour is just the manifestation of a deep psychological trauma that could become an imminent danger even to himself.</title>

<title>Although Osorio’s movie Siete Cabezas goes against the conventions of the horror genre and does a good job in constructing believable characters, they suddenly start to act in a way that, like in any other horror movie, goes against common sense and the most elemental self-preservation instinct. But this seems to be the only way to lead them into the deep of the wilderness where the harrowing final act takes place.Osorio’s ambiguous film could be read as a scaled-down version of the end of times where Leo’s scientistic vision of an environmental disaster merges with the biblical apocalypse that Marcos embodies. It’s up to Camila to decide if she will make the sacrifice required to restore the balance between man and nature.</title>

<title>You’re not in Colombia anymore”, claims our airport pick-up in San Andrés. “This is the Caribbean culture, the true island culture.”It’s hard to agree with him at first – as we drive pass Juan Valdez and uninspiring pasta restaurants. Once you’re clear of that, though, the islands can be what you want them to be. Well, if you have time and money enough to make that work, that is. It’s not easy to find traditional culture at times, but it is there. Not every beach is a crystal clear paradise, but some are. </title>

<title>Of the two main islands, Providencia is the most traditional, with easy access to island food and a lack of overbuilding. San Andrés is brasher, more clearly orientated for families and with more comforts easily at hand. The centre of the town of San Andrés is aimed at a particularly horrible type of holidaymaker, basically consisting of a giant mall by the sea where everything is geared towards allowing you to feel like you are in Medellín or Bogotá, only with a beach.</title>

<title>Colombia’s national authorities have given a green light to a metro system in the capital Bogota, but the future of the project remains uncertain. On September 25, Colombia’s National Political-Economic and Social Committee (CONPES) approved a proposal for the national government to finance 70% of Bogota’s proposed above-ground metro system, 75 years after the mass transit idea was first mooted.</title>

<title>With CONPES’ decision, the metro is now a financially viable project, but it will only move forward if local and national governments take bureaucratic steps they have failed to take in the past.At an estimated cost of $4.1 billion, the metro will be financed with approximately $3 billion from the national government and $1.28 billion from the City. That’s the recommendation CONPES made to the national and local governments, but the co-financing agreement still needs to be formalized in an official contract.Mayor Enrique Peñalosa now needs Bogota City Council to approve future budgets for the metro, and the national government needs a National Fiscal Policy Committee to approve the government’s future budgets as well before the project can move forward</title>

<title> Asix-hour drive south of the Colombian capital, Bogotá, across scorched plains and through twisting passes stretched along high Andean peaks, a dozen men kick a battered football across a strip of land clogged with mud and stones. On the sidelines a man slumped in a wheelchair clatters his prosthetic leg against the frame. A woman standing beside him howls at the referee. She is clutching a rabbit. A rifle peeps from the bundle of white fur.As the rain begins to lash down, the mad kick-and-rush played at breakneck speed continues unabated. It’s an ugly spectacle and yet, for the 200-strong crowd in this war-weary corner of Colombia, the aesthetics are not a primary concern. Most are here to witness the first stuttering steps in a remarkable and historic transformation: that of the world’s first professional football team made up of former guerrilla fighters.A year ago everybody was still at war but last November a peace deal was signed with the government and the western hemisphere’s longest-running conflict was brought to an end. For the left-wing Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia guerrilla group, or Farc, the Marxist struggle has since taken a new direction and football is playing a leading role.</title>
