  • This news article provided by EducationWeek and written by Mark Walsh discusses the admissions policies. This is important when discussing college preparation with students. They need to be aware of the policies of each of the schools they are interested in. Some schools may participate in "race balancing" rather than admitting students through a race-neutral and fair system (Walsh, 2021, pp. 2). Understanding these policies is important for students, so they can make informed decisions about which schools they apply for.

  • This news article provided by Higher Ed Dive and written by Natalie Schwartz discusses California, "considering two bills that aim to make it easier for students to obtain four-year degrees" (2021, pp. 1). It is important for students applying to college which colleges will provide them with the degree needed for their chosen degree path. It is also important for the students to know the cost of their degree at their chosen school. It may be better for some students to obtain their bachelor's degree at a community college because of the price of tuition.

  • The Texas Education Code provides information regarding Texas state statutes, one of which discusses the uniform admission policy higher education institutions must follow. It is important for students to be aware of this statute, because if they are within the top 10% of their graduating class, they will be automatically accepted into the institution of their choice. This information can be used to motivate students, as well as inform them of their rights under state law.
