         <description><![CDATA[<div>The scoop of the sixties was a government policy that took place in the 1960s and until the end of the 1980s, but its influence is very strongly reflected in the life of modern peoples. The scoop of the 60s destroyed an entire generation of Aboriginal children and left behind indescribable damage.</div>]]></description>

At this point, aboriginal children were 4.5 times more likely than non-Aboriginal children to be in the care of the child welfare system.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Sixties Scoop was historically significant because it resulted in </div><div>1. Historical trauma, with inter-generational effects </div><div>2. Resulted in several social issues. </div><div>Once in the foster care system, these children would rarely stay with one family alone, and would be shipped around from family to family, which is leaves one with no feeling of belonging, which is so integral to a child's upbringing. These children felt as though they didn't belong anywhere. Not on traditional land with their families, or with a foster family.</div><div> - Lead to a loss of traditional culture, teachings and the estrangement of families.</div><div> - Several children have not been able to connect with their families, and occasionally discover that their parents are deceased upon locating them. </div><div>- Aboriginal children never learned how to function in a family and in turn, how to parent children.</div><div> -Substance abuse problems, mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety, </div><div>- Loss of childhood, tradition and security.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Canada has become with a new Child welfare policy, and the provincial and federal adoption policies has changed.<br>Before children could be placed in non-indigenous families, the priority for adoption was given first to the white family, and then to another indigenous family.<br>In 1990 the federal government created the First Nations Child and Family Services program (FNCFS).<br><br></div>]]></description>
