¿Why has violence and insecurity increased in Ecuador?

In recent years, Ecuador has seen an alarming increase in violence and insecurity; murders, crimes such as extortion, kidnapping, and armed robbery have risen. The growing insecurity has paralyzed daily life. In most coastal cities, many businesses have closed due to 'vaccines' or extortions, and more families are migrating, either internally or abroad, in search of safety. This document explores the causes of the increase in violence and insecurity in Ecuador.

The principal cause is drug trafficking and organized crime. Ecuador is located between Colombia and Perú, countries that produce cocaine, it is considered a strategic route for drug trafficking. During the last decade, powerful international cartels from Mexico, Colombia, and even Europe have formed alliances with Ecuadorian gangs such as Los Choneros, Los Lobos, and Tiguerones. These groups fight for drug trafficking route control, resulting in lethal violence not only on the streets but also within prisons.

The increase in poverty is another reason for the rise in insecurity in Ecuador, almost half of the rural population in Ecuador lives in poverty, with few employment or educational opportunities. Poverty also is a main factor behind the involvement of young people in crime, for many young people, joining a gang is not a choice, but a means of survival. The lack of state presence in impoverished areas only worsens the situation, making these communities breeding grounds for criminal recruitment.

In addition, Ecuador’s institutions have struggled to respond effectively to the growing threat of organized crime. Prisons are largely under the control of gangs, the justice system is not functioning properly, and cases of corruption within the police and army are on the rise. Criminal networks operate with impunity, eroding public confidence in the rule of law and the ability of the state to protect its citizens.

Finally, Political violence has also become a serious concern. The assassination of presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio in 2023 sent shockwaves through the nation and exposed the deep entrenchment of criminal groups in political life.

In conclusion, Ecuador is at a critical crossroads. Growing violence and insecurity threaten not only the safety of its citizens but also the development of the country. Although the causes are complex, solutions require unified action across political, social, and economic lines. Addressing violence in Ecuador requires more than security forces; it requires opportunities, justice, and hope.

Nowadays homelessness it’s a real social problem in Ecuador, they are people that made wrong decisions in the past and now the present they can’t return to his past life, most of cases this problems are people that without education or are analphabetic, also can have problems with drugs, I think every person needs another opportunity so, if we can help homelessness to change that, we need to do it.

First, we need to find a place with affordable houses, where homeless people can feel secure and comfortable, this is the most difficult and important point we need to fix, after that we need to check their health, whether they are healthy people or need some treatment for anyone problem they have, this is important to check to past to the next topic, because if they aren’t healthy people, probably they can’t ready to get a work or occupation, this is another problem with others topics that needs to be check.

Next, after pass and the second (etapa), we should interview to know if they have degrees or abilities to do something, always people have different abilities or can do something important for the society. After that we are ready to search for a job or occupation where they are good, or they feel comfortable, all these ideas can change their life and begin like new and renovate people.

The difference between men and women: The gender role in today's society

Fortunately, we live in time in a society that’s trying hard to make us understand how men and women are the same, but in spite of it, they are putting up differences that are splitting us apart. It’s important to understand we are “constructed” in a different way, we don’t share the same strength, our hormones are mean to act different, and we have capacities that make us better for some things. Jobs and activities can be done by man or women, although they are going to be made in a different way, it will always get to the same point: to get the job done.

There´s no such thing as a woman or a man duty, there are things to be made by human beings. So, moms can work a 9 to 5 and also take care of their children, and this won´t make them less of a women or irresponsible mothers. Women have the right to dream of a career and also building families; dads can stay at home taking care of the house and the kids, they can be present and lovely dads and this won´t make them less of a man, they has the right to enjoy being a provider man but also a present dad.

To start with a change, we have to work in the education we are giving to our kids, they are the core of society and eventually with everything they learn, they are going to pave a way to future, not only as a matter of “ideals”, but they are also going to bring changes in politics, economy and education.

Why do rural students have less access to technology in education?

In rural areas, students face many difficulties when it comes to accessing education. One of the main problems is the lack of internet access. Many rural communities are located far from cities, and they do not have a stable mobile signal or cable connection. This situation makes it extremely difficult for students to connect to online platforms and attend virtual classes.

Moreover, many families who live in the countryside are poor and cannot afford basic technological devices such as smartphones or computers. Even though students want to study and improve their future, they simply do not have the necessary tools.

In addition, most rural schools don’t have computers, projectors, or smartboards. The government invests more in urban schools, which gives rural schools fewer resources and opportunities. As a result, there is a great inequality in access to technology.
