Specifically in mathematics. How would I possibly make math more exciting. Yes it is obvious, take the hands-on approach. Yet, when you are trying to not fail your mentor teacher, the students, or yourself in general, creativity goes in the back pocket for the first few tries. I was to follow the teachers manual for math, simple enough, right? Wrong. since I had no experience discovering the 1,000 ways students see a math problem, I was lost. Follow the book, review, and mimic the teacher. That is simply not enough. I am no longer terrified to teach a math lesson. Is it still hard, yes. Math is viewed in many was for each student. One way I have found that students become excited to practice math, was incorporating technology into my math centers and hands-on activities. I am starting to create my own ideas, as well as pull in different resources from websites, blogs, and other classroom resources I have bought. I was excited to hear a student ask if they could use the center in their free time. "The best was hearing, I get it! This is cool !"( "Cool as ice cream boys and girls?", I asked.
