This book is practical because it combined grammar and oral production skills to have a functional command of the language. It is aimed at students that already have begun their academic studies. It also helps non-native English-speaking academics that need to present and publish in English.

One of the features I like about this book is the vocabulary because it has been selected for being of particular importance in academic writing, reading, lectures and seminars. For instance, adjective compounds such as well-functioning and poorly-pay. In contrast, a negative feature might be not put complementary sources at the end, that is, to have access to other texts that reinforce the learning process given in the book.

In conclusion, the abilities obtained through this book help increase the academic knowledge in each competence that every English learn should have in its profile. You must read this book because you will be capable of develop understanding in a non-native language.

The book is divided in units, and each unit helps the student to develop skills in four categories:  reading, writing, listening and speaking, with a variety of exercises such as writing essays, group discussions, and  authentic practice to participate in seminars and lectures. The exercises bring different kind of practice opportunities for the student to achieve the academic skills for the high level they are reaching to. 

My opinion about the book is that it brings very useful and well-developed exercises in the four skill categories. However, some of them could be less simple to complete. One example is the audios in the listening category, which are not as complex as it should be. Most students that acquire the book will be in academic fields, so the audios should have more academic topics for the student to be familiar with.  

In conclusion, the content brought by this book is of great importance for students wanting to learn academic English and achieve the skills mentioned before. As it is well proportionated and with content easy to read, there will be no difficulties in the process of learning. 

The book is made up of ten different units that consolidates academic study skills. For instance, there are Grammar and Vocabulary exercises, Lectures and Seminars provided by the book in order to help the student to improve their ability. This is a three-level (C1) book with integrated skills course for EAP (English for Academic Purposes), which according to the Cambridge Dictionary is the teaching of English to speakers of other languages who need English to study at college or university. In addition, each unit have Reading, Listening and Speaking and Writing sections, essay organization, writing references, taking notes, hedging, paraphrasing texts and such others strategies that have helped me to improve my written and spoken English in an academic way. 

The content exposed in this book has a high language level, and it is proper if you want to learn academic English. I would strongly recommend you buy this book because it comes from a well-known university press (Cambridge Press), and the information is enormously useful. Apart from that, the price of this book is cheap ($40) if you compare it to the knowledge that you obtain from it.

The book is made up of several units, each of which has different topics related to the hotspot in our contemporary society. Simultaneously, one unit is divided into 3 parts with multiple forms of materials and exercises to practice and develop our skills on reading, listening and speaking, and writing respectively. In addition, at the end of each unit, there are 2 pages for grammar and vocabulary in that unit.

 

The Cambridge Academic English Book (level C1) is informative and practical. On the one hand, those topics, which were selected carefully by the authors, are able to broaden our horizons of knowledge. On the other hand, the exercises are divided into different parts, which is more targeted and efficient for us to develop our skills.

 

In summary, this book is a perfect choice for those university students who already have some basic knowledge on English but want to strengthen their academic study skills, which, in the long term, will increase their competitiveness. 

The C1 Advanced Student's Book consists on practical academic study skills, which challenge the student to increase their analytical accomplishment by authentic written and spoken academic texts. Furthermore, students are given a considerable amount of opportunities to improve their educational abilities due to the essay organisation, taking notes, group discussion, writing references and paraphrasing texts exercises of the book.

I consider that it assists the student to broaden their knowledge by practicing all the four skill categories. Besides the written academic exercises, the units deeply promote the self student learning and critical thinking, providing authentic practice in listening to lectures and participating in seminars.

In conclusion, this book is fully recommended for highly knowledgeable students who are interested in deepening their knowledge in a practical way. Also, is appropriate to make an immersion in the academic-formal aspect of the English language.

The units not only cover the central topics, but also cover other related aspects of the language such as punctuation, morphology and grammar. Every essential skill, i.e. listening, speaking, writing, grammar and vocabulary is put to the test. Each unit has something new in store for students who seek to learn English and also use it in a complex setting, including academic English. The word list and appendices also provide a concise way of learning or remembering key aspects. 

The language level is optimal for English students in the TI5 stage, the topics for each unit have relevance in our lives such as innovation, study types and families and relationships, and much can be learned from the learning content in the book.

In conclusion, this book is organized in a way that every unit allows for a different but enriching learning experience. I fully recommend this book to students who wish to broaden their English skills, so that they can attain a high level of English that can be put into practice.

In my opinion, the book contains enough activities to develop useful skills of the students, including note taking, paraphrasing, hedging, correct reference use, etc. The inclusion of two grammar and vocabulary focused pages at the end of each unit serves as a way to test what was learned. However, some of the activities can become repetitive and others can be simple and predictable, an example being some audios on later units. Despite this, I consider that, it studied thoroughly and with enough time, the book can be a useful tool for anyone who seeks to improve their English skill.

The ‘integrated skill course for EAP’ mentioned in the subtitle appears to refer the fact that ‘the book consists of integrated skills units that develop academic language and critical thinking skills in academic contexts, and some lecture skills that provide authentic practise in listening to lectures and note-taking’. The main objective is focused on the teaching of English to speakers of other languages who need English to study at a college or university.

This book also consolidates academic study skills in which students’ skills are challenged with an increased range of written and spoken academic texts. ‘From essay organisation, taking notes, group discussion to writing references and paraphrasing texts, the students are presented with a wealth of practice opportunities to enhance all academic skills at this level’.

I think the book develops useful materials that help college or university students improve their analytical skills in learning academic English that would help them develop new capacities in an academic area.

Each unit contains a grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening and reading exercises that helps the reader improve their language skills. In the book, it can be found readings and audios that could help improve all of the language capacities. In addition, it contains many notes, to help the student on organization, references, types of reading, note taking. Improving the creation of essays. The most important thing is a very dynamic book; it will not bore the reader.

I´d definitely recommend this book. It is an incredible tool and would definitely help to learn more about the academic side of the language. However, you need to take in consideration that it is not a book for students or people who are at a basic level or want to learn the language. The book as mentioned before contains a complex vocabulary and it is aimed to university students, or people that has a higher level learning English.
