Development companies are often responsible for the infrastructure in an area e.g. new airport, as well as helping to create hotels and resorts. This means that they help to develop tourism through helping to make, improve or develop a destination to attract visitors.

Case Study - Palm Island Development Project Dubai

The development is a mixture of offshore residential, retail and resort development. It is created on artificial islands off the Dubai coastline and the three palm islands alone will increase Dubai’s shoreline by a total of 520 km.

Palm Island could create conflicts with voluntary organisations who want to protect sea life in the area or with other companies who wish to develop on the area too!

Local residents can object to planning - this is because it may affect the way of living. For example, it an area starts to bring in loads of tourists on an fishing island, fishing may be disrupted. Which will obviously affect the way of living.
