They heard that there was a new virus in China slowly spreading. I asked if it was dangerous and she told me it was similar to the flu virus. I worried about my dad because he resides in China as my first reaction. My mom told him to travel and leave the house less. When I was in school when the pandemic first reached the US, I asked my friend if he wore a mask when he drove to Burnaby, a highly populated city in British Columbia, Canada. He said yes and I thought he was overreacting that he wore a mask due to the low to no cases in Canada. In other instances, I think some people were under-reacting by not wearing a mask in public spaces when the pandemic came. This is probably due to the fact that we didn’t have extensive information on this new disease and they most likely thought they were healthy individuals. After the government announced the pandemic phase, I was essentially on my way home from Florida to Canada. I remember there were barely any people on the plane. Because of this, flight attendants did not bring the beverage and food cart down the aisle. Instead, they put food and water on our seats before we got into the aircraft. Since no one was there, I scavenged for food on the other seats that were vacant.

We planned to stay until early April for about 4 weeks; however, the local government said the park had to be closed to limit the spread of Covid-19. We were staying at our friend's house at that time. Since I couldn't play tennis, there was no point to stay in Florida. However, our flight back to Vancouver, Canada got canceled, so we had to book another flight. Unfortunately, we had to cut our trip more than two weeks short. Upon arriving at the airport, we wore KN-95 masks and my mom brought a whole tub of Lysol to disinfect the seats and tray tables. I was actually quite surprised that not many people were wearing masks at the airport. After we landed in Vancouver, the government said we had to quarantine in our house for two weeks. Because I had to isolate myself from my dad and brother for such a long time, my mom and I decided not to isolate. With my house in a small community, I could have easily not made contact with my neighbors.
