People with autism experience the world differently compared to those who don't have autism and it's very important to understand how autism works in order to make them feel more accepted and understood. Many people with autism are hypersensitive to certain senses such as touch and sound, they try to avoid hypersensitivity stimulus to avoid getting triggered as this often may make them feel over-whelmed. This session really helped me understand autism better and also helped me connect with the main character from the book. I was able to further my knowledge on of one of the many different diverse types of people. Knowing the issues that autistic people struggle with is not only going to help be a more patient and understanding friend to any autistic person I meet in the future but it has also developed my ability to better understand the autistic protagonist from the book we are currently reading. I will now be able to, and already have, make meaningful connections and decode the meanings of all the small actions that the character performs. Ms. Devika was a wonderful person to learn from, and she answered all our questions so in detail yet clearly.
