It is easy to tell the genre because the singer always screams in a deep, guttural way. Most of the themes are about anxiety, depression, and loneliness. Much of the music that I have heard deals with bullying, mostly in high school, and overcoming that feeling of worthlessness. The dark themes that Screamo addresses are some that other genres never even touch, or address as powerfully as Screamo does. For that, it can help those in the world that want to give up. It gives them lyrics and music that hold the same conflicting emotions the listener has. While I'm not going to go downloading a bunch of Screamo songs, I have a deeper appreciation for the genre. I like the themes it addresses, because more music needs to talk about the problems in our society. I have also heard many people say that Screamo music pulled them out of their depression, or stopped them from committing suicide. There is a lot of hurt in our society that is brushed aside, because it isn't talked about.
