         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Quaternary time period is the last period in the Cainozoic era. it began 1,8 million years ago and it continues to the present time where we live now. The quaternary period is mostly known as the ice age, but also our evolution. It's divided into two time epochs, the Pleistocene and the Holocene. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Quaternary period is known as the ice age, the big thaw and the evolution of the human and animals like we are today. <br><br>The ice age lasted for 100,000 years and the reason for the ice age to developed was that Earth wobbled on it's path around the sun and the temperature doped fast. When the temperature  doped ice covered from the Poles to much of North America and Europe, parts of Asia and South America, and all of Antarctica. It caused climate change, but also changes in the sea levels. Because of all the ice the sea level falls and something called "land bridges" builds. This was a good thing for the humans and animals because they could migrate from one landmass to another. So they could move to all the continents. One negatively effect on the ice age was that extinction become a problem because the animals couldn't find the same food sources that the found before the ice age. The largest faunas, for examples mammals died out.  <br><br>When the temperature then started to increase again and Earth was in the right path around the sun again. The ice begin to thaw/melt because of the increasing temperature and that cause the sea level rose fast and the ice was now water that separate the continents. So the continents achieved in the same spot that they are today. Mountain was reshaped and rivers draining into big basins. The water drains from the snow and icy mountains when they melted. The water that drain down the mountains build big lakes that are still left today, like the Greats lakes in the united states. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Since the beginning of the Quaternary period sharks and whales have ruled the seas and their food chain was otter, seals, fish, plankton and much more smaller animals. Humans were also formed and started to hunt after the big thaw.<br><br>On the land when it was pretty chilly temperature it was the big animals like   mammoths, rhinos, bison, and oxen grow to massive animals with a lot of hair to keep warm during the ice age that was coming next. But when the temperature increased again the climate began to be warm and most of the megafaunas, like mammoths died out because of the heath and they was not made to live in this climate. <br>Only some smaller, but still large animals staid alive and survived the heath with a little thinner fur. Animals like the African elephants, rhinos and hippopotamuses <br>survived and they still live today.  <br>The most dominate species during this time period during the beginning of Quaternary time period was the megafaunas. Animals like mammoth, woolly rhinos and bison on the land. But in the seas it was whales and sharks that was the most dominated in the sea.  <br>The apex predators during this time period was sharks, and the shark that killed the most was the giant megalodon shark and it was 50- foot long or 15 meter. It was the most apex spcies that was a predator at this time. <br><br>The white shark is the smaller version of a megalodon that lives today and the blue whale still exists.  <br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Environment </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The environment during the quaternary time was two different sections. The first section is before and the ice age. During the ice age and before it was snow and ice everywere. The temperature was low and you have to have a thick fur to survive during this time. There was mountains like we have today to. <br>After the ice age the ice thaw away and the environment looked like it is today but with more nature and forest. This is because we humans destroy our nature and back in time when humans didn't destroy it by building big houses and citys, cars and things that is not good for the environment. <br>So the environment in the beginning of Quaterney time period was icy and after the big thaw it was not so much forests and nature, but after some years the nature started to grow and it become like we have it today but without all destroyments. From the research I have done it looked like it was more forests and nature before we humans evolved and get smarter with new technics. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Climate and Atmosphere</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>You can divide the Quaternary time period in two sektions, one before the ice age and one after. The climate befoe the ice age was still cold and only the animals with a thick fur could survive. Also during the ice age it was extreamly cold and not many animals survived. Then the tempherature started to rise again so the ice melted and the sea levels rose. The animals with the thick fur died out because it was to hot for them because they were made for a cold climate. Then the climate started to be live we have it taday with all the seasons.<br><br>The atmosphere during this time period was like we have it taday. Without the atmosphere the animals could'n exist on Earth. So it was the same atmosphere but thinner because it wasn't the same dose of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere back then. So it wasn't as hot as we have today in the summer because of the atmosphere's thinnes. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Ocean </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The ocean was filled with fishes, sharks, whales and planktons. It's like the oceans that we have today. Before the ice age the water was still cold and mostly with bigger fishanimals, but when the ice age come a big amount of the ocean was frozen. But scientists have found that the water wasn't frozen everywhere. Where the water was deep the water was still flowing under the ice. For example on the Arctic deep water the water still flowed during the ice age. Some animals like sharks and bigger fishes could still be alive because they have a thicker skin then the small fishes. Some where frozen and thawed up when the heath came.<br>When the big thaw came the sea level rose and the animals in the sea thawed. After a while the sun heathed up by the sun and it was just cold on the deepth of the sea. The bigger sharks like the Megalodon died out because the could just live in cold water and it was only enough cold on the bottom of the oceans. <br>So the oceans were like we have it today, it seperates the countries from eachother. The temperature back then it wa pretty cold in the sea and then the sun started to heat it up all the time. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The geographic landscape was like it was today, all contries was on the same spot with an ocean that seperate them. But under the ice age the water level sank and animals and humans migrate to the different contries. Then the ice melted and Earth looked like it does today. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>There is many fossils from before the ice age and before we humans developed like we are today. One example is that they have found the giant Megalodons' teeth on the sea bottom. Scientists know that the are no left because they have to live in a cold water and thats only on the bottom of the sea and if the were up on the surfabce they have been recordnize. Also they need a lot of food to survive and you can't find that on the bottom of the sea. Scientists have also find fossils from mammoths and other megafauns. The saber- toothed cat is also one of those animals that survived the cold and then died out when the temperature raised. They have also find some insects that is bigger then what we have today in fossils. </div>]]></description>
