I briefly worked with Ronnie and Tasha to create our own vision together. Afterwards Ronnie had me watch the rehearsals with the actors. Day 2 Today we hired equipment out and practised shooting the first scene. After taking the equipment back, I had to pretend to have it and practise shooting Chloe’s blog. Day 3 This morning I did some research into my role. I watched some episodes of Riverdale, to analyse Brendan Uegama’s cinematography on the show. I then watched part 1 and 2 of Parker Walbeck’s ‘Cinematic Lighting Techniques’. In the afternoon I went out with a camera to take pictures of the influencers, for thumbnails on ‘The Loop’. Day 4 Actors were required to be off book. I came up my own interpretation of a shot list from what I had rehearsed. I also watched a compilation of flashbacks from Michel Gondry’s, Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind. Day 5 Full cast runs all day. Week 1; 4-3-19 Today I was supposed to shoot the opening of the film. We met at university and collected the equipment, after a quick briefing with Oliver we made our way to Buile Hill Park. We started to set up but had to cancel the shoot because of the rain. We went back to Uni and had a meeting with Oliver, Ronnie and the rest of the crew about how we were going to deal with working around the weather conditions. 5-3-19 Today I shot the influencer blogs. The day was 10am to 8pm. I shot today on a Canon c100. After reviewing the footage with Racheal, I decided I wanted to record in a higher quality than 1080p. After discussing this with Connoll I decided to use the Ninja Flame and record the rest of the film in ‘Pro Res 422’. Thankfully all of the blogs being in a lower quality resolution will not ruin the aesthetics of the film, the only scene we shot today was Emily and JJ’s lip experiment. However, due to a framing issue we are going to have to reshoot the lip scene. Remmie’s blog with her dog was particularly tricky, because the dog was really nervous around new people. 7-3-19 Today I shot Cal and Leila’s opening scene, that we were due to shoot on Monday. Creating the den was challenging because we had to make it look like it was outside, and the shot had to be tight enough to not give this away. Today was the first day using the Ninja Flame, I came in an hour before my call time to familiarise myself with it. 8-3-19 Today we shot Leila’s reactions to the other influencer’s vlogs, her own vlog and her final vlog. I had to make the set seem as though it was night time, to do so Brett and I hung a thick black blanket outside her window. This cut all sunlight out of the room and I was able to light the set as if it was night time. I used a small camera light to light Imogen’s (Leila’s) face. 11-3-19 Today we shot the influencers VLOG/ experiment. Roadworks were going on in the area we were in, which meant the sound quality wasn’t great. For the influencer’s close ups, I had to go in closer so we could get audio (to match up in ADR). Today was the most challenging day of Clickbait so far. Because of the weather the natural lighting was challenging to match up. 12-3-19 Following on from yesterday’s long shoot, we headed to Duke Street for another long day, starting at 11am. I shot scenes 17, 18, 19, 20, 22, 23, 24 and 25. During a reset period, the Ninja was dropped and both of the batteries for it broke, this delayed proceedings hugely. We had an early lunch whilst the batteries were returned to the store, we swapped the C100 and Ninja combo for the Black Magic as this is the only other camera available at the store that is able to film in Pro Res 422. 13-3-19 We were at Duke Street again today from 5pm. We filmed the rest of scene 17, 18 and 25 in the dark. It was so cold; it was hard to work in the conditions. I wrapped up warm and we tried to get through the shoot as quickly as possible. 14-3-19 Today was very long, we had two shoots. The first call time was 9:30am. The first shoot was in the studio theatre at New Adelphi. Instead of using Ledgo’s and gels, I used the house lights to cast colour over the influencers. Because I’m not trained to use them, I had to work with the technician to get the lighting I wanted. We wrapped this shoot around 1pm and had a few hours off before the next shoot at 5pm. We arrived on set at 5pm and started to set up, but it was still broad daylight and scene 21 is set at night. As a group we packed up and went on a break until it started getting darker. Shooting on this location was particularly challenging because of the number of passers-by, the noise of cars and cold weather. The night was frustrating because during good takes, we were getting drunk people passing by and disturbing the shoot. When we eventually got the scene shot, we quickly moved to the car park next door and got Imogen’s (Leila’s) flashback trigger. RESHOOTS: 1-5-19 Reshoot at Duke Street. Due to not being provided a shot list and purely working on the director’s direction on the first shoot we missed vital shots. The shoot didn’t run as smoothly as we’d have hoped it might, however, after I’d captured everything and reviewed the footage I was delighted with the results. 2-5-19 Today we were due to reshoot outside the cathedral but after two unsuccessful attempts, we had to move locations to a sheltered place near Duke Street. By the time we had moved locations the weather had cleared up and I was able to shoot in the open nearer to the canal. Once we had managed to start, the pressure was on because we only half charge on the Ninja Flame. After a slow start (shooting the wide) we managed to get through and get the scenes shot to a high standard. After packing up the equipment into my car I rushed home to get the batteries on charge for tonight’s shoot. Tonight, was a very late one I did not get in until 1am. First, we reshot Leila’s reaction to Mel, then the shots before her flashback scene and then we finished by shooting b-roll of footage around Manchester. As I was the only crew member available to drive around Manchester Ronnie had to shoot the footage for me from the passenger side of my car. I selected the lens, set the aperture, ISO and shutter speed. 5-5-19 This scene was not recorded during the first two weeks of production, so we recorded it today. We shot at a local store, as it was only four shots the shoot went smoothly, and we did not have any issues. I did have to focus pull slightly on Louis as he walked off. 6-5-19 Today I had to get one establishing shot. It needed to be at sunset. We arrived on campus set up and set up the tent, it was at this point I realised we did not have a HDMI connecter for the Ninja Flame or an SD card for the c100. This made both pieces of equipment obsolete. As we only had 20 minutes left before the sun completely disappeared, we had to get the shot. Oliver rang Racheal who was in uni to see if she had an SD whilst I played around with some settings on Oliver’s iPhone 8, I managed to get the phone to film in 4k at 24fps. I captured 7 different takes on the iPhone before Racheal arrived with an SD, I then took 3 more shots with the c100. After the initial briefing we spilt into cast and crew. The crew went with Amie and Imogen took us actors off. Imogen asked us to create character backstories, how we met our relationship partner, scene and super objectives. We also discussed our relationships with other characters in the film. We also used hot seating to characterise. 19-03-19: Today I met with costume and tried on various different outfits for the party scene. I was also tasked with being off book by today as I had to miss Wednesday’s session. 21-03-19: The rest of the cast had spent the yesterday blocking and rehearsing the opening scene. As an actor I had to make sure my every move was immaculate, and I did not come out of character as this whole scene was a one take tracking shot. After spending the morning rehearsing scene one, we then rehearsed the whole script and ran it three times. Being provided with a floor plan and rehearsing at the correct size meant that when we get to shoot at The Living Room it will not need to be altered on the day. The director also asked Theo (Jamie), Paul (Terry) to run improvised scenes with various different scenarios with myself. 26-03-19 We shot Alan and Lilly’s scene at my house today. The scene ran smoothly and despite the heat inside Robyn, the crew and I stayed focused and worked through the heat. I found eating the warm spinach challenging on the shoot as it was disgusting. I had to remain in character with this horrible taste in my mouth, but I managed to overcome the challenge. 27-03-19 Today we were shooting at The Living room. Rehearsing the long take at the actual scale of the room made shooting this scene significantly easier. The shoot was delayed by technical issues. We stayed professional throughout, despite not being able to get the shot on the day, meaning we have to return to the location tomorrow to reshoot. 28-03-19 We shot the same scene as yesterday, focusing issues meant that some of the takes were not suffice. We had the same issues again today, with it being such a hard shot to get it was looking like we might not be able to do it as a long take. But on the last take we managed to get it perfect. The more we did the scene the easier it got, the challenge was now replicating the same enthusiasm and energy levels throughout. 3-04-19 Shooting today at Adelphi House was my favourite day during production so far. I was really allowed to play with my character, making bold comedic choices and really exaggerating Alan’s playful, funny and friendly nature. 4-04-19 Short just one take on Village Street it was arguably the most strenuous and challenging shoots; I was only driving into shot to pick Robyn (Lilly) up and saying one line. I moved to university at the age of 18, I left after my first year and managed to secure a job in Marketing at a small company, that went bust 8 months later. I then managed to secure a job at Matriarch and Co. a few weeks later. I love my job; it is rewarding and everyone in the office is very friendly. I’m named after my father’s favourite gardener Alan Titchmarsh. I love my name; it defines my being and I am proud of being myself. I am young, healthy and I love my life, I am besotted by my partner Lilly, she is everything to me. In scene 1: I am in Jamie’s virtual world. I do not play a major role in this scene. I am simply there to observe and appreciate Jamie. With this being Jamie’s world, I cannot gage what I would have been doing in the previous section of the game. In scene 21: I have been looking forward to Lilly’s lasagne all day. Jamie’s suspension at work has altered my mood and I am trying to keep it from Lilly. In scene 3: I have been playing the game, the night before and I cannot wait to tell my best friend Jamie. In scene 17: After playing the game for a while, I am really proud of my achievements on the game and I am hopeful my achievements might cheer Jamie up as he has been down recently. In scene 17: Jamie has just been suspended, I am trying my best to not let on to Emma, as I want to protect Jamie. 2. Where am I? (environment: location, conditions) In the film, I am based in both the virtual and real world. In the virtual world I am fairly irrelevant, I simply have to be there and appreciate Jamie, in a robotic way. I am also in mine and Lilly’s home, where I appreciate everything we have together. Also, I appear in the office, where I am respected and appreciated, Jamie distancing himself from me is getting to me. 3. What surrounds me? (persons, objects, color and texture) I am surrounded by close friends and Lilly. At work and at home I have pictures and various different objects that remind me of Lilly. She leaves notes on my desk at work which I attach to my computer to help me through hard days at work. Our house is homely, we have our own cushions, pictures and artwork. 4. What time is it? (hour, minute, date, year, century, era) It is April 2019. 5. What are the given circumstances?
