We will be interpreting NFL Catches using the official NFL rule and show kids the idea of "interpreting" and how it can be very subjective, even with a black/white written law. Discussed methods to extend lesson and go deeper.

Prior to break I worked with other Penta Satellite FCS teachers discussing ways to implement our new curriculum standards. Our challenge is a lot of material in one semester that used to be an entire year. So, now we combine projects so they are crossing FCCLA (our organization competition skills projects) with in class curriculum.

This assessment includes two informational texts about the life of Martin Luther King Jr. In the past, these concepts were only taught in the ELA classroom. Now, we have decided to work on them in Social Studies, as well. Susan will teach the ELA concepts and Katie will administer and review the assessment in Social Studies.
We will follow this same model with a literary analysis titled "The Brightest Sky".

Nicole Bryson and Sarah Mercer met to discuss the best way to incorporate and teach the extended standards in their co-teaching classroom. Our discussion went beyond one lesson and into how to best support our students in every lesson. We have put together a detailed extended standards binder complete with each extended standard covered for the quarter and developed at least one activity per standard. Students using the extended standards can then access this binder in order to continue learning with the rest of the class but with activities pre-designed to be right at their level.
