They’re currently in the national league south. Before the covid pandemic they were sitting in the play off places with only 1 defeat in 15 league games. Now with the new 2021/2022 season the club are aiming for promotion and this documentary would follow the progress of the club as they strive for new heights. 

In my documentary I would provide behind the scenes footage of the players training, footage of the players in the dressing room before and after matches, interviews and following the manager, interviews with the Director of football and some of their players. I feel as though this would make a great documentary as we always see documentaries around premier league clubs and their progress however we never see any around non league clubs. The documentary would cover their progress over the season and take a dive into their progression in the FA Cup and potentially how the FA cup would impact their season in a positive or negative way.

I will capture b roll footage which will set the playing environment for the players and will give the viewer and understanding of what life is like as a St Albans city player and how the manager goes by his day. The mode of documentary would be similar to the all or nothing series on Amazon Prime as I feel that those documentaries are gripping for the viewer and will make people want to watch more.  This hybrid approach will allow me to capture different types of footage.


With regards to access, I would be able to gain access easily as I have a placement with a company who works in partnership with the club. I know the right people to speak to in order to gain access to my interviewees. What I hope to achieve by Jan - I hope to achieve access straight after Christmas and will do that by asking Andrew, if successful then will look to start filming first - second week of January. I will have filmed some establishment shots of the local area and what it means to be a St Albans city fan.  By the end of January I will hope to have got some vox pops from St Albans fans and a master interview from Ian.

Make sure to upload my footage onto my hard drive so it’s not at risk of being lost. 

Make sure that within the next week that I’ve arranged a time for filming and progress with the filming. 
Once some filming has been done, make sure it’s uploaded straight away so it’s not lost. 

These 2 goals are very reasonable and should be done easily. 

By week three I want to start my presentation and have that completed by the end of next week so I can just add little bits to it if required. 

This will give me breathing space and if needed I can make changes.

Access: sit down with Ian and find out what’s achievable to film e.g. outside life, him helping out around the club, any training sessions of him coaching, managing a game from the sidelines. 

Think of things that are unusual for a manager to do such as clearing the bins on his day off compared to what you’d expect from a manager such as preparing the team for a match.
