My WKCA experience began on August 26th, I attended the West Kentucky Counseling Association's annual meeting at Murray State University. I enjoyed it greatly! I met new people, counselors from surrounding schools, and was introduced to many new opportunities to develop professionally as a counselor. I saw how much this organization could help me grow and develop, I went on to join the KCA and attend its annual meeting in Louisville last month.

My KCA experience began when I signed up to attend the annual conference in Louisville this past November. I had an absolute blast! I attended a workshop where I learned multiple techniques to use with elementary school students. I learned how to effectively communicate with peers, administrators, and parents. The instructor did a tremendous job of presenting the material and applying it to real situations. I was able to facilitate two other workshops. One on being an LGBTQ ally in the schools, and the other on NCAA eligibility qualifications. Both were good, but I took the most from the LGBTQ ally workshop. The instructor's presentation was simple and informative. I also had to the pleasure of meeting a number of members who had done a great deal of work in developing and advocating for the organization and its purpose. I will definitely be attending future conferences!

Applying what I have learned through my involvement with these professional organizations will be simple. I can apply my relationship building and effective communication skills with my fellow counselors, teachers, administrators, etc. This will allow for a positive working environment and positive relationships among my coworkers. If there is a time when I need help or am having difficulty with something professionally, or personally, I know I can utilize the relationships I have built from meeting new, and other professionals. They may have strategies or simple provide advice.
