Active learning can be seen as one of these oldest forms of learning. This type of learning occurs when animals interact with the physical world to evoke an intuitive response to the stimuli.

Active learning experience of the week: My silkie hens need their own run, as they're the smallest and so low in the pecking order. This week they will not leave the coop, making me think they need their own run

Active Learning: The silkies did not need their own coup, it just takes time for them to integrate.

Group based learning is essential for humans to collaborate on projects for the most efficient design. This allows students to see where their peers stand on certain issues, and also allows students to deepen their own understanding of a topic by their peers' perspectives.

Learning in action: This week I got together with a classmate and discussed his biggest culture shock coming to America, and what I could assist him with. Conversing with him made me realize how big our cultural divides are, and it was neat to think of the things I think are normal, but taboo to him.

This week on a group project I got my partner's tele so we could communicate over text about the water crisis in the Middle East.

Constructive or reflective learning is mentally reviewing past situations (normally of the day,) and analyzing what could have been done in a different way for a different outcome. Reflecting on past experiences at the end of the day leads humans to make assumptions about how people think and how humans could interact to produce a desired outcome.

Many teachers will use journals in their classroom and make the students go home and review those notes. This allows the student to make the connections they need to.

Last night I laid in bed and thought to myself if I forgot to do anything at work.

Also known as contextual learning, this type occurs as a process, and often misconstrued in schools. To learn authentically, students must have a problem or something they want to figure out naturally. They may want to know what factors contribute to that problem, and once they have the variables, they are able to be manipulated.

Past experience: I'm a manager at a grocery store, and ours was the first one in the company to get self check outs Learning to use them with no training was definitely an experience, just pushing all the buttons to see what they did. Now the other stores are having me train them on how to audit and use the machines properly.

I bought a new toilet and I wanted to read the instructions before I started installing the new one.
