“It is easy in the world to live after the world's opinion; it is easy in solitude to live after our own; but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson, The Complete Prose Works of Ralph Waldo Emerson
- the quote is a good example of showing self-reliance. Ralph is saying that its easy to rely on the worlds opinion to form your own and that even in solitude we still aren't quite in "solitude.'' Spiritual well being has a lot to do with finding meaning in being with yourself so when Ralph says "keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude" I think he's saying that you, "the great man," are able to be in the crowd and still remain independent.

I think Ralph Waldo Emerson best articulates the idea that ones spiritual well being is more important than ones financial or social well being. In his story "Nature,'' he says, "I become a transparent eyeball; I am nothing; I see all; the currents of universal being circulate through me; I am part of particle of god.''Ralph was explaining himself in a very unrealistic and spiritual way. "the currents of universal well being circulate through me..." Ralph is explaining that he feels the worlds well being running through him because he's so spiritually balanced. In another piece we looked at, "tiny house movement" everyone was saying that being able to live in a tiny house meant you have to be okay with not having as much as others.

This image of a cherry blossom tree and a mountain range connects to the "Nature" tenet of transcendentalism. This image reminds me of spring; the blossoms in full bloom, the mountains look freshly relieved of snow, the water like glass. The piece reminds me how pure nature really is; I don't spend much time outside, or at least not as much as I should and be more in touch with nature.

This song displays the tenet of self reliance. The line, "players only love you when they're playing,'' people will sometimes play around with you for their own personal benefit and you have to be able to notice that and be able to count on yourself for things. "I keep my visions to myself, its only me." in this line she's talking about keeping things to herself and maybe not sharing stuff that most people do. You have to keep things to yourself in order for them to stay truly yours. "Its only right that you should play the way you feel it" In life you're going to have to make decisions and the majority of them are going to be ones that are for the better of you, not others, "play the way you feel it."
